- Chapter 95 - The Female Swordsman

After Iris had seen there was enough distance between her and her opponent, she checked her wounds as well.
She decided not to look at them, but rather take a step forward.
There was a sharp pain she could feel, but there was no problem in her stepping forward. She was bleeding lightly but was still by senses.
She managed to infer that her opponent called themselves a Swordsman Gang member.
The depth of their first blow could’ve been fatal. Iris knew her opponent rather well.
The woman – Lastille, was shaking as she stepped forward. At the same time, her blade moved back to her, via her knee area.
The Swordsman Gang doesn’t merely consist of people that are capable of swordsmanship. And it’s easy to see that Lastille is one of those people.
“Good focus you got. Nothing like that of a child. But that’s why… I can see the shadow of death”
“…Is that meant to threaten me?”
“Uhuhuhu…”
Iris wasn’t really flustered by her behavior. She grabbed Purple Lightning firmly and took another step forward.
Lastille lowered her back slightly — The one to make the first move was her.
“—–“
Within a single breath, Lastille managed to close the distance between her and Iris.
She swung her blade with her right hand. A single blade came out of her fist.
Kling– and the sound of clashing steel resonated. At the same time, Iris’ lightning was making her way over to Lastille.
She was shocked for a moment, but while Lastille’s body shook,
“Uhuhuhu”
“!”
Without any real happening, she started laughing and swung with her left hand. Like before, a blade formed from her left hand, and Iris created some distance to dodge the attack.
Hwoem – And the sound of wind could be heard as Iris swung her sword,
“Hikaminari”
The lightning around her body was flowing onto her sword and then flew away from the tip. Lastille was unfazed and didn’t even show any form of difficulty as she dodged the attack by bending her body.
(So it didn’t even land even at this distance)
“A long-distance attack… You had me there for a moment. For I thought you were a mere knight, really.”
“I can’t fault you for that, for I was not too long ago. However, I’ve been training you to know.”
Swordsmen need to close the distance in order to battle. Still, Iris’ master, Alta, is a swordsman himself but manages to fight effectively from a medium distance as well, with his Wind Blade.
Iris was always rather restraint in using this technique, but this time it actually worked out well.
She felt like she had to use it since she was now facing a member of the Swordsman Gang. However, she has no fear — Iris stood here as the Swordmaster Princess after all.
“Your body isn’t anything normal, is it?”
“Uhuhuh, “You’ll know when you see”. But you’re right… I’ve modified my body, with the “Natural Blade”, which is easily integrated by the human body. Perhaps you know it as a Monster blade?”
“Monster..”
Iris frowned her eyebrows. Lastille was, as one could guess by the name, using a blade that came from a monster of the natural world.
She’s probably using one that comes from an insect-like monster — It clearly has drastic self-healing properties and strange bodily forms are referred to as synthetic beasts.
In other words, while Lastille is still human, she modifies her body with magical experiments.
Or perhaps someone has conducted this onto her… Iris had heard from Alta that the Swordsman Gang has a few members with quite the past.
But even so – She cannot forgive anyone that commits themselves to slaughter people.
Though Iris isn’t a knight yet, she aspires to be one. So in a sense, it’s her duty to stop Lastille.
“I still have many blades. Look, even here”
As Lastille was stroking her own body, three blades came flying out with a rather strange sound too.
It was quite a strange spectacle to behold, so Iris understood that this was the point where she had to be flustered.
“Fuuu”
Silently Iris said this and then took a breath. She imagined what she was going to do as the oxygen entered her body.
“–Here I go”
With these words, Iris made her move.
There was no hesitation as she moved into Lastille, whose whole body was a lethal weapon.
She knew the range of her ever since her first move — Weapons are meant to expose your opponent’s weaknesses, but can also be used for simple melee combat.
Still, Iris stepped into the ring — Iris too was rather adept with close combat.
As her blade was sliding over the floor, she quickly slashed with it. Lastille blocked it with her right-hand blade and moved her left hand to strike with. — Iris took another step and tore through Lastille’s left wrist.
“!”
She then evaded the right-hand blade, and Iris held her Purple Lightning in her other hand now instead. In a moment, Lastille was back on her feet again.
As Iris created more distance between them again, blades came out from Lastille’s feet area.
She then left out a laugh.
“Uhuhuhu, You move as if you know what’s going on already – That my body is made of blades that are meant to kill”
“Yes, I got it quite well”
Seems like Alta’s lessons came in handy. Her now well-honed senses are enough to compete even with someone like Lastille, who is quite the unconventional weapon user.
“Well, then first one blade”
“—-“
Along with Iris’s answer, Lastille’s right-hand blade was severed.
This was the first time she actually looked surprised.
“I don’t swing to just block you know. I actually destroyed it”
Iris’ one swing… Though it was silent, it was infused with enough magic to actually make it a worthwhile attack.
Lastille had no fear of being hit by the lightning, but her body was made out of monster parts — And that’s not something that Iris can’t cut.
“Uhuhuhu… Interesting. You’re quite strong. Well, then I too–!!”
“…?”
From here on out the real battle was about to start — That’s what Iris thought until Lastille suddenly looked up at the sky.
Iris didn’t look away though. All there was to be seen above was the shining sun.
Yet, Lastille put up a bewitching smile again,
“I understand… The shadow of death was this”
She murmured as if she finally understood.
“What are—“
“Nihi”
Iris was interrupted by the sound of a little girl’s voice.
The following moment she appeared with an entrance like that of a meteor.
Then, a single strike – Lastille’s head went flying.
Fresh blood was flying about, as the girl cleaned her sword of blood.
“Wha..!?”
“I don’t like to butt in, but… Well, whatever! That was the contract”
The girl in the kimono said as she stood there with a big smile on her face.
