Fiore Academy – I, Alta Schweiss, was in the teachers’ room.
I was sitting in the back, on the right side when looking from the entrance, together with other teachers.
As I gathered up the Swordsmanship class’ test forms I let out a sigh.
“Hmm… Only a little bit longer”
I’ve already become quite good at my job as a teacher – But whether that’s a good or bad thing is a completely different story.
As far as swordsmanship goes, no one comes close to Iris.
As expected from the Swordsman Princess… Even from my perspective on out, she is no longer on the level of a student.
The next on the list with the highest rating is Iris’ friend, Alia Notoria. It’s quite hard to put her anywhere in the spectrum of swordsmanship, but simply by looking at her skill, you can see she has more than enough power.
There were also a few other students that had quite good scores when it came to Swordsmanship.
However, none of them may be actually fighting to become the Kingdom’s strongest knight.
As long as those with skill enter the knights’ orders, this country’s future will be all right.
“Mr. Alta, do you have a minute?”
The one that called out to me was the head of the year, Oz Corsta.
As always, he seemed way too muscular for the man in charge of the magic classes.
He must be the only teacher that doesn’t call out to me with “Mr. Schweiss”. He is also the only teacher at the academy that is aware that I am a knight.
Still, he interacts with me as if I am just a teacher.
“Mr. Corsta, what is the matter?”
“Oh, it’s about the extracurricular lesson, but I would like to ask whether you’ll be part of the sea group or of the mountain group”
“The extracurricular lesson… Isn’t every class being split up?”
“That’s right. Every year there are many that go to the sea, but there is much to learn in the mountains as well. There’s plenty that loves the mountains and goes there as well”
I’ve had just about completed this survey within my own class.
The results should be as good as completed… I picked up the paper from my desk to confirm what group my class would be in.
“We are… the sea it seems”
“The sea huh. It might be good if we all go to the sea.
As Ozz was filling his head with the results of the questionnaires, he bowed to me and left.
–The Extracurricular lesson is a lesson that occurs once every year.
There are other places we go throughout the year, but for this one, they seem to be having a questionnaire with whether people would want to go to the mountains or the sea.
My class, like every other, had an overwhelming amount of votes to go to the sea, but…
I remember that Iris actually voted to go to the mountains.
Training in the mountains… No doubt she’d love that. I can’t imagine she chose it for any other reason.
Alia however chose the sea, like most others. Truth be told, most students regard this questionnaire to chose where they’d want to play.
In total, the trip will take 3 nights and four days… And the sea groups seem to be staying in a small town nearby.
I personally wouldn’t mind going to the comparatively calm mountains, yet still, we’re going to the sea.
After I finished the Swordsmanship class’ ratings I stood up and left the teachers’ room.
That’s when I met Alia and Iris — They came to greet me. …Or did they wait until I left?
“Mr. Schweiss, we’ve been waiting for you”
“Ahaha, sorry to have let you wait”
“Iris really couldn’t wait though…”
“Don’t say that”
Iris became a little bit red as she tried to deny Alia’s statement. But Alia’s words already had more than enough reliability.
After all, Iris came at me with a big smile on her face as she saw me.
…She actually looked like a dog waiting for its owner to come back. That was really the impression I got, but I decided to not address the matter.
Together with the two of them, we went to the back of the building.
As training after school had become such a normal part of our routine, the place we practiced also became more normalized.
As we walked towards the usual spot I remembered the questionnaire of before.
“Iris, do you mind talking about the questionnaire a bit?”
“The questionnaire? Oh, the one about the Extracurricular class… in the mountains?”
“Well, we’re most likely going to the sea”
“Oh, is that so?”
As she heard my words, she averted her gaze.
“Was there any specific reason you wanted to go to the mountains?”
“Because it’s the mountains….?”
“Why does that sound like a question? You must really like the mountains then”
“No, that’s not it… I figured we’d be able to train more in the mountains. Isn’t that right?”
I never expected her to give the exact same reason as I figure she’d have.
She’s supposed to be the daughter of one of the great aristocrats …. then why does she have such a wild soul I wonder.
As I wondered, Alia stood next to me.
“That’s not everything. If we’re going to the sea, you’re going to have to swim right?”
“…? Right”
“A-Alia! Don’t you dare bring up…!”
Iris interrupted Alia with flustered words.
However, Alia started to run away, to get away from Iris.
“Iris can’t swim yet”
“… He-Hey! Wait up, you little–! Why would you tell him!!?”
Iris ran after Alia, filled with anger. They were as active and loud as ever, but that is to be expected from Alia’s provoking words.
… Maybe this is a noble’s thing though…
There are rivers nearby, but nobles might not have the time to play in them.
It’s not really that shameful a talk, more something I’d be concerned about.
— For if she’s going to be a knight, not being able to swim might be a serious setback.
