- Chapter 100 - The same as before

Without letting any of the students know what was actually going on, the first day had passed.
Iris and I had left the crime scene before to Remyl and her knights and merged with the other students again.
Also, Alia didn’t really press much in the sense of wanting to know more, she had just asked to “tell me more later”.
And with that, it had already become night, and I thought back on what Remyl had told us about the current situation.
There are still four Swordsman Gang members left. One of them is Zenas Rady, the man with the crimson blade.
He’s the one that directly assaulted the Kingdom’s Black Wolf Knights Order, and is the reason that Ruino is working together with the knights as well.
She also told me why Ruino Tomura had come here.
The reason was even simpler than I had imagined.
Both the Swordsman Gang and Ruino are after me — However, Zenas is actually going after Ruino it seems.
But the fact that they’re actually coming after me — That makes my job a lot simpler than to protect another person. After I had heard all that Remyl had to say I returned back to my lodge.
Remyl is still on stand-by in this town. Even during the night, it would be right to leave the protection of this town to the knights, right? … Still, I had things to work out in my mind.
(If they’re after me, would I be able to use you, I wonder)
“Mr. Schweiss”
“Alia!”
Alia was waiting for me in front of my lodge.
She wore a black one-piece and quickly came up to me,
“Could you listen to what I have to say?”
“Of course, go ahead”
This was the point where I was going to listen to what she had to say.
For this moment at least, we were all here as part of a class from the academy.
I checked around for a moment, but couldn’t find Iris nearby.
“What happened to Iris?”
“… She had to swing her sword. I stopped her from going further, but she didn’t go that far she said”
Alia looked over to the sea.
Even during this ordeal, the things Iris needs to do don’t change — No, perhaps her will to swing the sword are even stronger now.
“Knights have been deployed throughout the town. However… you still can’t walk alone during the night like this huh”
“But you can, right?”
“Yes, because I am your teacher. Well, why don’t you return to where Iris is?”
“Understood”
I took Alia with me and walked throughout the town. The town was lit by lights and lanterns, so walking here was no issue. However, the coast was very dark, and you couldn’t see anything in front of you.
Judging by where Alia was looking before, I figured Iris should’ve moved here.
As I moved on, not a word was uttered.
“Seems like Iris got to know your secret in the end, huh”
“Nonsense, I merely didn’t think she was actually going to be in a one on one fight with a Swordsman Gang member. In the end, I merely couldn’t say nothing, that’s all”
“… I really didn’t want Iris to meet danger this time around.”
Alia suddenly murmured.
“Well, for the sake of conversation, if you were the one being hunted, would you tell Iris?”
“As a teacher, I would say nothing. But I don’t want to hide anything anymore. I would at least … Talk about it with her.”
She wasn’t really talking about this too openly it seems. But perhaps ever since the Notoria incident, she might have had a change of heart.
Iris is indeed strong — However, she would throw away her life if she can save Alia’s.
And in return, Alia would throw away hers for Iris.
“You know, though you two are so different personality-wise, you are also very similar to one another.”
“…Is that so? I don’t go overboard like Iris does though.”
“Ahaha, well from my perspective on out you both seem to go overboard quite a lot though”
“No, we don’t. Iris has a “never run away” policy. And I do — That’s where we differ.”
Perhaps what Alia said was true. Iris would never choose to flee, no matter who her opponent is.
But then again, I am sure that Alia is also capable of doing so. But only when Iris is to be involved.
“Mr. Alta… You are a Swordmaster, aren’t you?”
Alia suddenly asked.
Ever since I told her I was, she never asked anything about it.
“That’s right. I only told you, so please, keep it a secret”
“I know. You’re not going to tell Iris?”
“Not really. I mean, it’s not something that she needs to know. And besides, if a boy like me were to suddenly tell her that he was infused with the memories of a Swordmaster… You wouldn’t believe it, if you suddenly heard me utter such a story, right?”
“Iris probably would. I do too. That’s why we had this conversation, right?”
“… That’s true, but at that point in time, you needed someone to rely on, so that’s why I told you. I’ve also thought about what would’ve happened if the effects were completely different”
“Well, you’re really strong, so there is quite some credibility there. But there is also some point in that you are the type of person that would hide anything. Could you please talk to her about our current situation more properly after?”
“Of course, I will.”
I will share information about whom I will deal with from here on out. If I were to not be here for whatever reason, I can leave it to Alia and Iris to finish the job. I at least trust them enough to leave it to them.
“… Not only that, but Iris also seems to mind.”
“Mind what exactly?”
“About the girl, she met, Ruino. She wondered whether she was your acquaintance”
“Ooh, about that. I do not know her though. That’s no lie”
“Well, and what about the name “Tomura?”
“!”
I stopped in my tracks when Alia asked this of me. Her face was very serious — I understood the intent with which she asked me.
She’s wondering whether the name Tomura has the same kind of implications as the surname Tomura does.
“I see… Still, you don’t need to worry. But I might as well tell you. After all, you also know that I am a Swordmaster”
“What do you mean?”
“Honestly, it’s not that great of a story. It’s just that — I once knew a Tomura whom I called a “friend”.
It wasn’t related to Alta Schweiss – This had to do with the entity called Raul Izalf.
That is why I told her that I have no connection with the person named Ruino.
But then again, I didn’t even know that Ruino had any connection to the Tomura I knew, to begin with.
“Well then, is there a possibility that this Ruino girl is related to your friend?”
“That might be the case. However, that is irrelevant to the current situation. Please don’t worry about it. The problem at hand is the Swordsman G–“
As I talked with Alia I suddenly felt a presence and stopped talking.
It was one of a girl with a tremendous concentrative power.
In the distance, I could see a girl with a conjured-up sword swinging it with magic-infused.
“That looks like Iris. Alia, let’s continue our talk once we have caught up with her.
Either way, I have no affiliation with Ruino Tomura… And that’s the truth”
Alia nodded as if she understood my words. We should focus on how to deal with the Swordsman Gang at this point.
Alia and I moved towards Iris, who was swinging her blade as she was practicing with her conjured up blade.
As we drew in closer Iris had also noticed us.
“It’s good to see you’re training, but your far past curfew you know”
“Mr. Schweiss… I am sorry, I– I really wanted to swing a blade”
Did something happen during her previous battle? — No, if there is anything weighing on her mind it would be what I talked about with Alia too: my relation to Ruino.
I told Iris that there was no connection, but… Then there is also the fact that Remyl had said a bunch of things, so it had become quite difficult to convince Iris.
I know about Tomura… Iris too knows this, for sure.
“Iris, like I promised before, I am here to talk to you about what had happened before. But first, let’s return to our lodges”
“Understood. But before that… I have something to ask of you”
As she gripped the hilt of her blade, the look in her eyes grew more serious as well.
“Could you — Fight me for real?”
These were the exact same words she uttered when we first met.
