- Chapter 57 - Arriving at the headquarters

As soon as the carriage arrived at the Black Wolf Knight order’s headquarters, we were greeted by Remyl and a few of her knights.
Eina got out and quickly stood in front of Remyl.
“Pleased to meet you. You are exactly like the specifications I heard of. You are Remyl Ein, the Knights Captain, I presume?”
“That is correct. Excuse me for letting you wait for so long, lady Eina Bodel.”
And so the two of them greeted one another.
In front of the ever so dauntless Eina, even Remyl made sure to look as serious and knightlike as possible.
No one could think that this person was previously chased around by her own knights’ order.
Remyl laughed and proposed to show Eina around.
“My subordinates will show you around the headquarters, my lady.”
“Oh, well sorry for the intrusion. You must be rather busy as the knights’ captain I assume.”
“Nono, I too have someplace I would like to show you, but…”
Remyl quickly looked behind her.
Responding to this look, a knight behind her nodded.
.. Could it be that Remyl actually wanted to show her around?
Now that I think about it, she was originally going to do so. At least, Remyl herself told me she would.
But the fact that she won’t means there’s only one reason…
(She is still not finished with her paperwork.)
That’s as far as I can imagine for the reasons she wouldn’t participate.
What’s more, she was also injured before, causing her to be unable to work.
If she’s serious, she is absolutely a phenomenal knight, but… She also has this lazy side to her and sometimes you’re able to catch a glimpse of it.
Behind Eina were Marshe and Iris, and they followed her into the first building for the tour.
Iris was also a noble, but she too has had rather few chances to get a look at the inside of the knights’ headquarters.
She seemed rather happy that she was able to enter this time.
…What’s more, she was not the King, but she was seen as the Strongest Knight of the kingdom.
Iris might actually have a lot of respect for the knights’ order.
She might be fighting the idea that she is having fun, but that is very much a thing that Iris would do.
(Iris is of course, still a child. And then there’s also-)
“Captain, is your work already finished?”
“Aren’t you going?”
“I am supposed to be with her 24/7. But if she’s here, she is more than safe. Wouldn’t you agree?”
“Surely. Still, you haven’t yet told them you’re a knight, have you? What would happen if they saw you talk with me?”
“I too am a noble for now, so I don’t think that talking with you, Captain would be too conspicuous.”
“Oh, is that so? You’re always talking about money that I nearly forgot.”
“Well, I am not that noblelike anyways, right? How did your work go by the way?”
“What can I say? It’s a little beyond me if you know what I mean.”
“… Is that a call to make me help you?”
It seemed like Remyl was trying to say that she couldn’t finish her job because I asked her to put some investigation work in regards to Alia’s case.
I can’t really push back against that idea much, so I couldn’t really answer her back either.
She was looking at me with a big smile on her face and said: “Just kidding. I give you the VIP treatment. You know that this is a place where many knights gather right?”
“Not to choke you or anything, but you could take a rest if you’d like, you know.”
“I don’t really need to though. But, I am with these girls all the time, so it’s not like I won’t get tired after a while. After all, Iris is here too.”
“Ooh, you really do rely on the Swordmaster Princess, huh?”
“Just before, you already put some work in for us too, didn’t you?”
“Oh, yea that’s right.”
Remyl lifted up her shoulders.
Even within the knights’ order, Iris’ esteem seemed to have risen ever since the Swordsman Gang got defeated.
There were nobles that would put themselves in the face of danger when they were being hunted down.
This was, of course, not only something for nobles.
But to also take it upon yourself to actually do something about it — that was a choice few nobles would make.
And with that in mind, her esteem not only as a knight but also as the next king rose to a new level.
“You could say that Eina too has quite some power in her as well.”
“I think so too. As the daughter of the Empire’s Marchal, her strength didn’t seem to have come from her parents’ influence though.
And she also doesn’t need an escort either… I wonder what to make of all of these things.”
It might be the same thing Iris is going through.
Remyl was joking, so I repeated what she said before.
“She didn’t say she didn’t need any, just that she needed fewer. She said she’d protect her own body.”
“…I see. So she wasn’t joking then.”
Remyl’s expression slightly changed. If she was indeed not in need of as many escorts, then my workload would consequently increase.
“Well then, with that in mind, let’s revisit the escort team. Well, I will of course cover what is being left out. Thank you very much.”
“Thank you very much, you say. What is that supposed to mean?”
“My salary increase that is.”
“Ohohoho, you insulent welp-“
As we had this conversation, we quickly went back to work.
We didn’t have much more time left here in the headquarters, so I was quick to rework the escort schedules.
