- Chapter 53 - Her whereabouts
Translator: Darling | Editor: Coming soon…
I arrived at the headquarters of the Black Wolf Knights.
It’s been a while since I had requested a meet-up with Remyl.
It’s almost always her that calls onto me.
Before I even managed to enter the room at all, I already noticed many other knights too had gathered in the same room.
And in the back sat Squadron leader Remyl… Seems like she was being held captive here.
“Hey, it’s been a few days. Hasn’t it first-knight Alta Schweiss”
“You seem as lively as ever”
“Oh, this makes me seem lively, ye?”
Seems like she still has a mountain of paperwork to go through, so her knights have locked her up in this room for the last few days it seems.
Right now they’re busy with the files in regards to her absence.
The captain would actually be able to escape with any small opening if it were presented to her – And that’s exactly why there are so many knights here keeping an eye on her.
I looked over at the knight right next to the captain.
“Good work. Would you mind giving us some space?”
“Understood. But, the guards in this room – “
“I understand. If she dares to escape I will catch her for you”
“Thank you for your understanding”
“Um… What the hell? You understand that I am the highest in position here, ye?”
“Then please act like it too, captain”
I took my seat while sighing heavily.
Remyl finally got released as well, and soon relaxed her shoulders, and took a seat in the sofa.
The knights that kept an eye on her left the room.
“Whoooo… It’s been a while since I’ve had a break. Thanks, lad”
“I really thought you’d break out in tears though”
“I wouldn’t expect less from my most trusted knight. Can’t you let me break away? I’ll take you on a date”
“When the job is finished”
“You’re so uptight…”
Remyl laughed strained. I didn’t come here to release her from the hell that is paperwork, though.
“Well, then let’s talk about Alia”
“Ah, your disappeared student, ye? I asked around for some leads, but there seem to be none…”
“I see”
I had asked Remyl to check whether there was someone that was familiar with Alia. After all, her essence lies in the fact that she was once something like an [Assassin].
As far as Iris’ explanation went, it seems that the is a chance that she is in touch with an organization of such sort.
That’s why I wanted to confirm whether she was in league with any assassin league or whatever.
“Could be that they’re playing dumb though. After all, there are only a few who can actually get in touch with them.
As far as that incident went – There is someone that pretended to be a knight and someone who had their goods stolen.
The person who’s goods got stolen – No, there is a chance that there was no one that pretended to be a knight.
Still, considering her age, it seemed unlikely.
“True. Still, it was better than to have no information at all”
“I wonder if we would be in the same position without this information”
“Thanks for putting so much effort into this, captain”
“Of course. It’s quite something that a girl just disappears without a trace like that.
If we were to rely on the public investigation, it might have taken somewhat longer”
“Yes, that’s true”
It’s only been a few days since Alia disappeared.
The public investigation is going on, but they’re checking everywhere, which takes a long time.
What’s more, we actually do have a clue as to where she might have gone.
Soon the Empire’s people will come – So it seems almost a bit too convenient.
(…you could call it a leap forward, but we should still be wary, right?)
In the end, the burglary of that day had many eyewitnesses, but they all just saw that they were running away.
And no matter how much help we got from the knights in the investigation, we never got hold of anything concrete in regards to what happened to Alia.
“…”
“It’s rare to see your face filled with so much trouble. I do understand where it’s coming from though”
“! Did I make such a face?”
“Yea. And usually, you have a much more cool personality”
“…Well, there is someone close to me that is also constantly worried about her”
Iris is usually well behaved when it comes to her behavior, but now that Alia is gone it is really visible that she is worried.
But even during times like these, she still took on the role of guide.
(Finding Alia is really the most important thing right now, isn’t it? … After all, she’s my disciple too)
I teach her the blade as well. I might not be her escort, but she is still my student and my disciple. I’m worried as much as anyone else.
(Well, you might say that that has changed..)
“I want to help you out with this as well”
“No, captain, please. That’s quite fine”
“Think about it. If you take me with you it would have quite a merrit, no?”
“Hahaha, but taking the rest of the knight’s order along as well would be a big demerit, no?”
Remyl was trying her very best to get out of this room, but I couldn’t take her with me.
As I left I could feel her staring intently at me.
I will at least make some arrangements so that she can breathe normally.
“Well then. What now”
There are many things that I could do now, but I really have no idea how to go about it.
For now, I will focus on the tour that has been planned with the people of the Empire.
