- Chapter 22 - Hundred legs

Folt was laughing maniacally while flailing his sword.
His blade, Hundred Legs, moved by his will in all and every direction, without difficulty.
It wasn´t just the blade that was dangerous, but the various small blades that extended out of the blade.
I should deflect the blade once it is in a moving motion, and then go for a strike.
But his blade won’t stop moving.
“Ha, that’s useless!”
Hundred Legs started moving again.
The tip of the blade came straight at me this time.
I wanted to get close and try to deflect the blade, but he wouldn’t let me.
I sprinted around Folt.
As I tried to strike him with one of my attacks, but his blade deflected mine once more.
Without the right distance, I can’t seem to put in enough power for my attack.
Folt’s blade is infused with magic, enhancing it with great defensive powers.
Though he is harsh in his language, he definitely fights very diligently.
He took a stance so that I definitely wouldn’t get close to him.
At a glance you might find gaps within his attacks – But it’s actually something like a pinch attack that you wouldn’t be able to do with a regular sword.
This blade’s killing power alone, the smaller extra blades are higher on the blade than its tip.
It’s like a saw blade that keeps on moving – Rather than slicing, it is more likely that it will gouge its opponent.
“Are you going to keep running the whole time?”
“No, that’s not quite right.”
As I answered Folt I swung my sword.
I once more aimed at the blade – The sound of steel echoed again, the movement of the blades was disturbed, but not stopped.
“It’s useless to keep on trying that. You thought you could cut the blade’s thread again huh? It’s not an ordinary thread though, it’s made of “Dragons Hair”.”
“Dragon’s hair you say? That would indeed be hard to cut through.”
“The sword is like a dragon’s tail. Rend the flesh and crush the ones – That’s what this blade is all about.”
Dragons – As they were called the biggest monster, it’s also called the strongest kind of monster.
No matter what part of the dragon is used, it is as hard as nails. The real toughness is unknown, but it’s enough to withstand my attacks it seems.
I dodge the tip of his blade and try to deflect the blade back to him and then go for another attack.
Once more the sound echoes through, but the blade keeps on moving.
“You really don’t know when to stop, do you?”
Folt swung his hand.
While raising a smell, the blade got bigger too. The blade started moving as if it had a conscious and went for my legs.
The blade would keep on attacking without rest.
This attack was also done at a distance – But if you can’t finish it, you can’t win.
Folt’s “Hundred Legs” seemed to be optimally used at medium and long-range.
It’s rare for two swordsmen to have a fight at such a distance.
In order to win, I need to strike him from a medium-range with Invisible.
(It might take some time, but it seems to be the most reliable way to win.)
I can’t keep on dodging his attacks without any strategy.
It’s time to take action.
I suddenly stopped moving.
“! So you finally give up?”
“No, I was thinking that I was about to get more aggressive.”
“Oooh… That sounds interesting!”
Folt moved his blade with his mind again.
I prepared my blade in order to counter this attack. As I was about to cut off the tip of his sword, he quickly ordered it to move towards my legs instead.
As I repelled the blade it was dealing more and more damage to the school ground. It seems the blade was also able to gather stormclouds with its attacks.
Looking at all this, I am actually glad that he didn’t come during the day, with all sorts of students hanging about.
With his repeated attacks I could see Folt’s expression getting more irritated by the minute.
Every time he came at me, I would try to cut off the tip of his blade.
And every time that would stop his attack and he would immediately pull back his sword and go into a defensive position.
He kept on accelerating the speed of his attacks, but none of it managed to hit me.
It doesn’t seem like he’s going to hit me anytime soon.
That’s because his blade is good at long distance, but that’s about it.
His blade isn’t that fast either. It’s able to attack multiple sides due to the side blades, but in a one to one battle, that really can’t be demonstrated.
Against any normal opponent, it would be very efficient. But not against me.
“I’m sorry, but you’re not going to hit me.”
“Don’t fuck around, kid!”
Step by step I started covering the distance between us.
With every step, Folt tried to keep the distance.
If this was just about physical strength, Folt would win.
But you can’t just keep slicing forever.
I took one big step forward – and Folt laughed again.
“Here it comes!”
Did he find a gap in my movements?
His blade accelerated again, trying to surround me.
It attacks from the right – It seems like I won’t be able to dodge this one in time.
But, no problem. I wasn’t planning on dodging it anyway.
I took a swing at Folt.
My Blade of Wind was reaching him.
His “Hundred Legs” moved to protect him.
“Didn’t I tell you it wouldn’t wor- Ha?”
He raised an idiotic voice of surprise. – His right arm was flung into the air.
At the same time, an immense sound of steel could be heard once more. Folt’s blade fell to the ground.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Fuck. FUCK! What the hell did you do!!?”
As he shouted he looked at me.
He didn’t let his guard down.
I wasn’t slicing at him without meaning either though.
“It finally worked, it seems.”
“What do you mean…”
“My blade, the blue shell sword, isn’t an ordinary sword. It’s infused with magic. Well, I did tell you to be cautious of it.”
“I said: What do you mean by …”
“An easy explanation would be … poison.”
“Poison… What the…”
“Yea. Its actually meant to work against mages. It also works really well against magical swords. It just took so long because your blade is very long.
My blade is actually one that severs the flow of magic”
As he heard my answer, he finally noticed.
My blade is not one that excels at direct combat but is actually made to neutralize its opponent.
It’s a weapon made to battle against magic users and monsters.
But Folt’s blade was so big and long that it took a long time to have an effect on it.
Anti-magic poison – That’s the magical power bestowed upon my sword.
The match’s victor was already decided when he couldn’t hit me at long distance.
All I had to do was wait for his Hundred Legs to grow slow – As soon as that happened I was able to cut off his arm.
“So you just kept waiting for this to happen —!”
“That’s right. It didn’t seem like you were going to hit me, so I took it steady. Just like you did, right?”
He lost his dominant hand, so it doesn’t look like he is going to fight me anymore.
Though he’s looking at his Hundred Legs lying on the ground, he knows that if he makes any strange moves he loses his left arm as well.
“Folt Masenta. In a failed attempt to kill the Swordsman Princess, Iris Reinfell, and for being the suspect of the murder of “The blue blade” and his group of knights, I will arrest you now.
“You think you can just capture me?”
“You’re not actually going to run from this pl-!”
As I said that I could feel a presence coming from behind Folt’s back.
He soon made his escape. A silver-colored ball fell onto the ground.
It was infused heavily with magic. Suddenly, an immense light emitted from it.
“Wai-~!”
The light obstructed my sight.
I quickly prepared my blade, but there didn’t seem to be more attacks coming my way. It was just a tool to make sure that he could escape.
The presence from before too was no longer here.
But I soon felt another presence coming from behind the school building and stopped moving.
When I looked over I could see a person’s shadow.
It was Iris, looking at me with a very concerned expression.
“Iris, what are you doing here in the middle of the night?”
“Mr. Schweiss, what was that just now?”
She heard me. That’s why she asked such a question in return.
If she saw everything that happened here then it has little use to deceive her now.
I can’t sense anyone aside from her, but it would be best not to chase after Folt now, and just stay by her side.
(..But I really do have to explain what happened here, huh)
I managed to become her teacher, and teach her in the sword – But I didn’t imagine that I would have to have this talk with her.
