“Laruza, for you to forget our youthful days together… You’re in for a scolding, later,” said Lu. Lu took out from his fur the giant emerald he received from Brother. Yet, Brother’s cold expression didn’t waver.

“…How dare you!!!” said Lu. The magical energy within Lu was… running wild, and raging.  He was exasperated by this irrational situation.

Brother was charging his magical power-up, gradually. The stadium could be heard cracking and creaking. 

Asu’s voice came down from overhead. “Laruza is strong. He diligently concentrated on his training to protect Sera. Gilan, you need to go all out. As long as you don’t die, we’ll somehow manage the rest.”

“Well, we’ll just have to see what happens,” said Gilan.

Asu, Lu, and I pooled our shimmering magic together and cast it onto Gilan. It would provide plenty of defense.

“Gilan!!!” I cried.

Gilan conjured up wind and used it to fly up to Asu’s side, and grabbed onto Asu’s leg with his right hand.  Asu floated elegantly as if there wasn’t a large man hanging from his leg.  Brother threw an endless flurry of shuriken at the two of them in midair.

Gilan, while still hanging, calmly extended the pointer finger on his left hand. The wind began to circle the tip of his finger rapidly and started to sound like a high-powered fan. He released it as a swift gust. 

The gust became a circular blade, and while deflecting away Brother’s shuriken,  it began cutting off the sharp blades of the tips of the earth spears all around, creating towers with possible footholds before disappearing. 

Gilan and Lu both stepped onto nearby pedestals that used to be spears.

Lu nimbly leaped into an attack aimed at Brother! Brother, who had been holding Maribelle in his arms suddenly distanced himself from her, and with both hands, fired off shuriken aimed at Lu! Lu deflected these with his tail, and without pause, surrounded Brother with sand. Lu’s eyes glinted, and the sand burst into seven glowing colors at once. 

Mirage! This was Lu’s illusory magic. Brother held his head with one arm and shook his face back and forth. His feet were swallowed up by sand and rooted to the spot.

Just in time, Miyu appeared and wrapped herself around Maribelle.

“Father, Elza, Eris, and now even Laruza…” Miyu said to Maribelle, “I can’t forgive you, ever.”

Miyu conjured a square barrier around herself, and started conjuring water into it! She was attempting to trap herself and Maribelle in a water-filled chamber.

“Hey, dragon! Open your eyes! The evil young lady is over there! Kyaah! Laruza!” Maribelle said, and began to struggle for air.

“You’re the one who should be opening your eyes. My kind master and Eris both gave you multiple chances.”

Miyu, with Maribelle along with her, submerged herself in water. Brother blew away Lu’s illusory magic at last, and threw a shuriken at the cage of water, trying to break it. But the cage simply warped like it was made of rubber, and returned to its original form. Careful to not hurt Maribelle, Brother didn’t use his magic on the cage.

Since Brother’s back was turned towards Gilan, Gilan took aim at him, weaved a powerful amount of magic around his left hand, and then released thousands of blue comets with streaking tails at him. Water? No, this was flame. They were burning so hot, that they glowed blue! It could probably melt metal – blue, just like Gilan’s eyes. This must be a skill that Asu the fire god bestowed upon him. If this power was conjured into a massive ball, it would be fatal with one shot, most likely. This was an attack not meant to kill. To settle this quickly, Gilan was making big moves immediately. This was for me.

I couldn’t think of a single kind of magic that could defend against these comets.

“Br…” As I was about to yell Brother’s name out, Father put his hand over my mouth. I couldn’t stop myself from calling out. All I could do was watch as the flames reached Brother’s back.

A blue comet scraped against Brother’s cheek. It sizzled and left his face burned.  I was reminded vividly of the burns, pain, and smell of burning that I experienced in the battlegrounds of my previous life. 

With a glaringly red wound on his cheek, Brother thrust his right arm into the air and took out the one sword from the magic room. This was unusual for Brother, a one-handed sword.
