“What! Empire of Gale? Look, our story is back on track! Laruza! Gale is our enemy! The empire and this evil young lady are both taking aim at our country! They’re agents of evil! They made me suffer terribly! Please! Lump them all together and destroy them for me! Then, we can build a peaceful world together!”
After taking in those words spoken by Maribelle, Brother looked towards us. He glared at us coldly. I felt as if my heart was suddenly being squeezed.
“Maribelle… you’ve been grievously injured. You should fall back for now,” Lord Schneider said, intervening for me despite being physically exhausted. Was he trying to buy me some time?
“Excuse me?” Maribelle said to Schneider, “Shut up, already. Now that Laruza’s here, I don’t even need you. In the end, the Mob is going to stay the Mob. Isn’t that right, Laruza?”
Tarl must have sensed danger as he took up his defensive stance in front of Schneider, and began charging up magical energy. He must be thinking that the brunt of Maribelle’s attack may turn to them depending on her mood.
“Lu, tell Sera to fall back. I can’t fight with Sera here,” Asu said from Gilan’s shoulder, flapping his wings loudly and hovering in the air.
I saw Lu was hesitant to be apart from me and I said, “…Lu, please, save Brother. I’ll stay calm over there in the corner.”
With Lu as reinforcement, a power shift had occurred. The danger Gilan faced was decreased. It made capturing Brother a larger possibility. I fully supported Lu participating in this battle.
“Miyu… restrain Maribelle. By attacking on two fronts, we can divide Brother’s attention. I doubt he will be able to move much from the repeated curses put on him, but be very careful, anyways.”
“Sera-cha-…I…my master, please be safe as well,” said Miyu, and kissed me on the cheek and slipped away out of view.
After seeing Miyu off, I nodded once to Lu and retreated to Father’s side. Lu stomped over to Gilan’s side and set his massive body down.
“Laruza, for you to forget our youthful days together… You’re in for a scolding, later,” said Lu. Lu took out from his fur the giant emerald he received from Brother. Yet, Brother’s cold expression didn’t waver.
“…How dare you!!!” said Lu. The magical energy within Lu was… running wild, and raging. He was exasperated by this irrational situation.
Brother was charging his magical power-up, gradually. The stadium could be heard cracking and creaking.
Asu’s voice came down from overhead. “Laruza is strong. He diligently concentrated on his training to protect Sera. Gilan, you need to go all out. As long as you don’t die, we’ll somehow manage the rest.”
“Well, we’ll just have to see what happens,” said Gilan.
Asu, Lu, and I pooled our shimmering magic together and cast it onto Gilan. It would provide plenty of defense.
Gilan… and Brother…
Someone clasped my hand tightly. It was Father. He entwined our fingers and gritted his teeth, bracing himself. I had to have faith that Gilan would help Brother. That Brother would return to us.
An expressionless Brother took his trusty shuriken and threw them, driving them into the ground. The earth there rose up like a spear and stretched into the sky, attacking Asu. Following that, the ground erupted in a series of booms, with spears being thrust in the air everywhere. This was landsharp, a forbidden Earth magic curse.
This was the deadly Earth magic that could kill with a single blow that Brother had taught me long ago. I recalled those fun days of going wild during our childhood training at Ichimofu and was nearly brought to tears.
Asu swerved and fluttered about in the air. Lu used his forelegs to break the towering earth spears at the base and send them crashing down. Brother concentrated his attacks on Gilan’s body. Gilan leaped and flipped about in the air, but on the third spear to attack him, he was cut by a sharp edge on the arm. Blood flew into the air. Defensive spells were almost pointless in the face of Brother’s power.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
“Gilan!!!” I cried.
Gilan conjured up wind and used it to fly up to Asu’s side, and grabbed onto Asu’s leg with his right hand. Asu floated elegantly as if there wasn’t a large man hanging from his leg. Brother threw an endless flurry of shuriken at the two of them in midair.
Gilan, while still hanging, calmly extended the pointer finger on his left hand. The wind began to circle the tip of his finger rapidly and started to sound like a high-powered fan. He released it as a swift gust.
The gust became a circular blade, and while deflecting away Brother’s shuriken, it began cutting off the sharp blades of the tips of the earth spears all around, creating towers with possible footholds before disappearing.
Gilan and Lu both stepped onto nearby pedestals that used to be spears.
Lu nimbly leaped into an attack aimed at Brother! Brother, who had been holding Maribelle in his arms suddenly distanced himself from her, and with both hands, fired off shuriken aimed at Lu! Lu deflected these with his tail, and without pause, surrounded Brother with sand. Lu’s eyes glinted, and the sand burst into seven glowing colors at once.
Mirage! This was Lu’s illusory magic. Brother held his head with one arm and shook his face back and forth. His feet were swallowed up by sand and rooted to the spot.
Just in time, Miyu appeared and wrapped herself around Maribelle.
“Father, Elza, Eris, and now even Laruza…” Miyu said to Maribelle, “I can’t forgive you, ever.”
Miyu conjured a square barrier around herself, and started conjuring water into it! She was attempting to trap herself and Maribelle in a water-filled chamber.
“Hey, dragon! Open your eyes! The evil young lady is over there! Kyaah! Laruza!” Maribelle said, and began to struggle for air.
“You’re the one who should be opening your eyes. My kind master and Eris both gave you multiple chances.”
Miyu, with Maribelle along with her, submerged herself in water. Brother blew away Lu’s illusory magic at last, and threw a shuriken at the cage of water, trying to break it. But the cage simply warped like it was made of rubber, and returned to its original form. Careful to not hurt Maribelle, Brother didn’t use his magic on the cage.
Since Brother’s back was turned towards Gilan, Gilan took aim at him, weaved a powerful amount of magic around his left hand, and then released thousands of blue comets with streaking tails at him. Water? No, this was flame. They were burning so hot, that they glowed blue! It could probably melt metal – blue, just like Gilan’s eyes. This must be a skill that Asu the fire god bestowed upon him. If this power was conjured into a massive ball, it would be fatal with one shot, most likely. This was an attack not meant to kill. To settle this quickly, Gilan was making big moves immediately. This was for me.
I couldn’t think of a single kind of magic that could defend against these comets.
“Br…” As I was about to yell Brother’s name out, Father put his hand over my mouth. I couldn’t stop myself from calling out. All I could do was watch as the flames reached Brother’s back.
A blue comet scraped against Brother’s cheek. It sizzled and left his face burned. I was reminded vividly of the burns, pain, and smell of burning that I experienced in the battlegrounds of my previous life.
With a glaringly red wound on his cheek, Brother thrust his right arm into the air and took out the one sword from the magic room. This was unusual for Brother, a one-handed sword. After he took some practice swings with a blank expression, he spun it about with such speed that couldn’t be followed by human eyes, and he blasted back the comets aimed at him!!!
“Why…” I muttered.
I obviously didn’t want Brother to be wounded. But how was he facing off against blue fire with a sword? Why didn’t the sword melt? Or break? Was it a magical sword? What kind of magic had he conjured?
“What in the world is that sword…” Father said, widening his eyes, “That surging motion… could it be Orihalcum?”
Orihalcum? The material used in the sacred treasures and a metal that legends say is impenetrable when made into weaponry? That Orihalcum?
“Laruza… Did you really find and dig up this object? This object is said to have been sealed away since the foundational Age of Gods to protect humans from it, and you… arm yourself with it? For Sera… My god… Typical of you,” said Lu, and looked at Brother with nostalgic and proud eyes.
…Brother had really become a treasure hunter, hadn’t he? I wanted to cry and laugh at the same time.
As Brother continued to blast away comets, he also smashed and pulverized the hardened sand at his feet. Then, he made his way over to Maribelle and using the Orihalcum sword, he tore open the cage of water.
“Laruza-chama…” said Miyu.
Maribelle was completely wrapped up by Miyu, and couldn’t be seen. Brother brought the sword down upon Miyu. My darling Miyu!!!
“Enough, already!” cried Miyu. She flailed out to knock away the sword with her tail, but she took damage on her scales and blood began to ooze out.
“Miyu!!!” I yelled.
Ahh, even my darling Miyu was hurt in all this. I was far away from her, but I prayed for Miyu’s pain to be taken away and thrown somewhere far, far away. Miyu’s body had been tightly wrapped around Maribelle, but in pain, it loosened, and Maribelle’s face became slightly visible. She had passed out. From lack of oxygen, was it? Maribelle was out! Thank god. With this, the mesmerization on Brother should end, right!?
However, Brother lifted his sword at Miyu again! It can’t be! But, Miyu held onto Maribelle as if she would never let go. This was because… I had commanded her to…
Lu tackled Brother.
“Laruza!!!” Lu yelled, and got in front of Miyu, and blocked Brother’s path to her.
Brother wasn’t returning to normal at all… Was it that he couldn’t stop attacking unless he was given a command to stop by Maribelle?
