The soft thumping of Gilan touching down on the ground ran through me as he held me.
“Sera – you can open your eyes now,” he said.
A gentle breeze was blowing, and we were standing on a flat patch of land looking out onto a volcano jutting out over a vast forest.
I was eased onto the ground, and at the same time, Lu appeared beside us.
“Asu, you have some nerve trying to deflect me at the magical barrier!” said Lu.
“Ah, so you managed to break through the barrier protecting this sacred land? You’ve become quite adept, haven’t you?” said Asu.
“So, this is Beluga, huh?” I said.
It was Asu’s sacred land. Yes, the air here was just as pure as it had been at Miyu’s shrine on Reagan Island.
“There is a smile shrine on the mountain’s summit. That’s where I met Asu when I was a young boy,” said Gilan, looking up at the mountain peak.
We could see the smoke billowing out of the mountain, but we couldn’t yet see any of the actual peak. It must have been a thousand meters above us, yet.
“Don’t tell me we’re going to climb this?” I asked.
Asu laughed softly and said, “Once you’re fully recovered, Sera, I’d love to have you at my shrine. But for now, we’ll just take a short walk.”
Asu flew ahead and we followed him. Gilan, considerate of my condition, held my hand and walked at a pace that suited me.
After we had walked down a craggy path with difficult footing for fifteen minutes… We came upon a rocky hollow with steam rising out of it. Its sulfuric scent was so nostalgic!
A cloudy white hot spring, ten tatami mats wide had appeared before us!
“No way! An onsen?!” I exclaimed.
“If you bathe here, I’m sure your wounds will heal faster,” said Asu.
An onsen… I hadn’t been in one since my previous life!
“A-amazing! This is amazing! Yay! Thank you, Asu!” I said, hugging Asu tightly. I quickly shucked off my cape!
“H-hey! Sera!” said Asu. “Wait a second! Gilan! Scoop out some water and test its temperature! Sera, I said wait! Don’t undress yet! Lu! Have you not taught her the concept of shame?!”
“Shame? Why?” asked Lu. “Bathing is a natural activity for humans. What is there to be ashamed of? All right, Sera! Let’s swim like we always do at the green marshes! Let’s race!”
“Yeah!” I replied.
“Always?! Why does that little dragon allow such a thing?!” Asu was uncharacteristically flustered as she rushed to stand in front of us.
“Wait, wait, wait, waaait! Gilan’s gone catatonic! Sera, you’re banned from going completely naked! Get a towel from the magic room and properly wrap yourself up! Gilan, you wait over there behind that boulder for a bit!” said Asu.
Gilan shakily made his way over to the boulder, holding his head.
“What? In my previous world, you weren’t supposed to bring a towel into the water at a hot spring, though,” I said.
“That world is irrelevant! I am the master of these lands! Be a good girl and do as you’re told!”
“Oh, all right.”
“You are so annoying,” said Lu.
“Lu,” I said, “Asu’s annoying side is just a part of who she is. We always realize later on that her annoyingness was a blessing.”
“Ah, how poignant,” said Lu.
Asu had nothing to say to that. [Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
I wrapped myself up from my chest to my bottom, and after passing Asu’s strict inspection, I gently slowly lowered my foot into the hot spring.
Ah… It was just right… It warmed me to my core.
Lu jumped in, too, staying scarf-sized, and began to splash and swim about.
“Ah, this is heaven… Gilan! Gilan, come join us!” I called.
“Ah… Sera, why are you always so unguarded?… You’re tempting me,” said Gilan.
“Huh?”
“I’m all right. I can come bathe here whenever I want.”
Why had he come out from behind the boulder so nervously? Gilan looked at me, submerged in the cloudy water up to my neck, and sighed deeply. He sat down by the boulder.
“You’re not getting in, Asu?” I asked.
“The temperature is a bit too high for me to bathe in,” said Asu.
I rubbed the hot water into my scars that were above the top edge of my towel, and thought, Heal, Heal. Then, I went over to the rocks that had turned green from the water at the edge of the pool. I lay by cheek on the rocks closest to Gilan, and we looked out at the same scenery, together.
As we looked down at the lands below, between the clouds, we could see the city at the foot of the mountain and the ocean. We couldn’t see the Marshan Continent or Reagan Island across the ocean, though. I wondered if Miyu was working hard alongside Lenza-kun in her training…
“Gilan?” I said.
“What’s up?”
He looked away from the view and over at me.
“There’s a mountain that Asu protects, here, and flourishing cities – not just here, but all over. There’s an ocean, and resources, and that’ll lead to trade. Galle is going to just keep getting better and better,” I said.
“…You think so?” asked Gilan.
“Definitely!”
“There’s even an onsen!” said Lu, who was floating on his back, splishing and splashing.
“Sera… Will you help me?” asked Gilan.
“Of course! But you have to promise to help with developing Trundle! Even though it’s a hot-blooded country,” I said.
“Hot-blooded…? But, yes, of course, and… It would be nice if… We could live alongside each other forever…” said Gilan with a small smile. He reached over to my hand and grasped it.
“Overheating…” muttered Lu.
Asu answered while laughing softly, “They’re going to get married, soon. They don’t get to see each other very often. It’s only right that they warm up to each other a little!”
“Nooo! I mean the water is hot! Hey! This bath is pumping out more and more hot water from underneath!” said Lu.
“What?” said Gilan, his eyes going wide. He dipped his left hand in the water and rechecked the temperature.
“Huh? Sera? Sera!” said Gilan.
“Hot… Gilan… I can’t…” I said.
“Sera?! Snap out of it!”
“Gilan!” cried Asu. “She’s gotten dizzy from the heat! Oh, no! Hurry up and get her out of the water! Get some wind going! Maker her drink some cold water!”
“I’m… dizzzyyy,” I said.
“Dizzzyyy. Meooowww…” said Lu.

In the end, I fainted at the onsen and had Gilan nurse me back. He saw me completely naked, got me dressed, and carried me back to the imperial palace. The medical magicians helped me heal, and I passed out, asleep, until the next morning. It was an unbelievably embarrassing ordeal for a young woman…
“Before marriage… Don’t be killed by Granzeus… No, Trundle, maybe? Against three people…”
I heard a very deep sighing by my bedside.
“With Sera, completely… Can’t get a moment’s rest… Haha…”
I felt a gentle petting on my forehead.
The hand felt nice and cool on me. I moved my cheek over to it.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
