- Volume 9 Chapter 160 - (Celebration of the Comics Publication #1 and Light Novel Publication #3) Independence Day 2 – Asu’s Special Moves Improve Even Further

During my first day off, I spent the whole day in the kitchen. Asu, who had employed Arthur in the kitchen, supplied the raw ingredients, and I processed them for later dishes. I froze ingredients for later use or made sure they would be good for use, and sometimes prepped ripened fruits for later cooking.
“Arthur – is this too sweet?” I asked.
“Well, this shrimp has a strong garlic flavor to it, and it’s really very tasty, but I think it could be a little spicier… Ah, to be a taster for the Princess! Am I really worthy of such a role?”
Arthur was holding his hand to his cheek and looked like he was about to cry. Were the meals he was used to in Galle really so bad that this impressed him that much?
“Hey, that’s no doubt the kind of food that Arthur loves,” said Lu.
“But didn’t Arthur grow up with the same foods from Galle that Gilan grew up with?” I asked. “For you, Lu, here’s some of the Madrena dish that Arthur brought with him.”
Lu chowed down on it and said, “…Hmm. I can really taste how this would be a good dish for children.”
“Arthur, do you think we have time to go to the Nilba Orphanage?” I asked.
“As soon as Independence Day is over, you can go whenever you want,” said Arthur. “I’m sure the kids will be nervous to meet a boss like you with no appointment arranged, though.”
Arthur smiled gleefully at the thought. Perhaps it was a good thing that he started dealing with kids, lately.
In the evening, Gilan and Asu, who finally had a tiresome day after a long break, came by, and Sakaki joined us as well. It had been so long since everyone was gathered to eat dinner together. To think that this was an every day occurrence just a few months ago… It felt nostalgic.
Since we all had to get ready for tomorrow, we finished up early. I went to bed with Lu quickly, as well.

Today, Liguido had prepared my clothes. I was following the phrase “When in Rome…” to a tee.
“Oh, wow!” I said.
It was a dress. Well, I wasn’t a member of the military of Galle, so I guess it was only natural that I wouldn’t be wearing military garb.
This dress from Galle was designed by Marcus, and it was a high-waist type. Just under my chest, there was a cutaway gap. It came with a high collar to hide away the scar on my collarbone. Then, there was a long, flowing stretch of fabric down to the floor. Hmm, it was full of hidden pockets and belts… Liguido had done a good job! I was thankful, as I packed in some knives and shuriken.
The dress was the same red as Asu!
“Red… This is the first time I’ve ever worn a red dress…” I said.
Asu laughed softly and said, “It suits you, Sera. Now, sit in front of the mirror.”
“Hm?” I said. Since Asu was urging me on, I sat in front of the mirror stand.
Then, Asu came behind my chair and conjured up some wind magic. My hair suddenly started flying this way and that, dancing about and glinting shades of red.
“Huh?” I said.
Asu then flapped his wings and a gust of wind swept up my hair just so, and it settled into a hairdo atop my head.
“…Are you serious?” asked Lu, who was standing behind the mirror. His eyes widened into big, staring circles.
“No way…” said Sakaki, who had been assigned to accompany me for the day. “Last time… The princess has tied up her hair?… The Holy Bird’s done it!”
Asu laughed softly, again, and said, “Well, since I was faced with the challenge, I really couldn’t just sit back and watch.”
While the conversation progressed, my hair was twisted this way and that… This was an elegant evening style…
My mouth was open in shock at how I looked, too. Asu plucked a crimson feather from his own tail, and along with a staying spell, he stuck it into the back of my hair.
“Hmm. I daresay it’s a masterpiece!” said Asu.
In the mirror, I saw a woman in a red dress and shockingly elegant hair. She looked like a passionate, yet currently dazed princess. Beside her now, were a fuzz ball and Sakaki-san.
“Asu…” I muttered.
“Fio… You’re going to stand out more than you want to, yet again…” said Sakaki.
“Asu… You call yourself a holy beast, but… What the hell is this?” asked Lu.
Asu laughed softly, and said, “That means you like it, doesn’t it, Lu?”
Asu hummed, apparently satisfied with himself, and flew off to join Gilan.
I decided that I would have to put some serious work into my makeup to keep up with what the Wind God had just bestowed upon me.

We arrived at the imperial palace by carriage. I never really liked the showy ordeal of entering Galle, so we went through the back gates.
As we passed through the gates with Lu on my shoulder, I asked Sakaki a question.
“Should we just go to the official meeting grounds, for now?”
“No, we’ve been ordered to go to the Emperor’s office,” said Sakaki.
“Got it. I’ve been to his office, before, so Lu and I can go, unaccompanied. Sakaki-san, you can go take care of your errands. You’ve been accompanying me for two days now, so I’m sure you have some matters to take care of, right?” I asked. “Not in particular, but… I do need to go change into my official military clothes. Fio, you go straight to the office, okay?” said Sakaki.
“All righty,” I said.
As soon as we waved goodbye to Sakaki and we turned off to the right to head to the office, a vague darkness surrounded us. Suddenly, it appeared that knife was at my throat.
“Be quiet!” said a middle-aged man’s voice.
“…Who are you?” I asked.
“Don’t worry about that and don’t make a scene. If you try anything funny, all of your precious little kids at the orphanage are dead.”
“Wha-!”
“What a fool,” said Lu, “I’ve already sent Miyu to the orphanage.”
I nodded imperceptibly to thank Lu.
Whoever this was, they found one of my weak spots… I couldn’t forgive them for this.
Since they took it this far, someone would have to pay the ultimate price.
“Ah… It seems Gilan’s already enraged that he can’t reach you. Sakaki’s message to you back there was definitely a red flag. I thought something was fishy, too…” said Ly.
Apparently, Lu was already in contact with Asu. Gilan was angry… This was bad… I started sweating so much that my make up was definitely getting ruined.
The man scoffed and said, “They said Trundle this and Platinum that, so I thought you’d be tough… You’re literally trembling with feat!”
It was true. I was thoroughly frightened.

As we passed through a darkened hallway, we got to a basement.
We eventually came out of a tunnel into an area lit with torches. The air was thin, and one could easily tell that it wasn’t a good place to be. It felt like a room that had a dark history. The man ordered us to a stop.
Standing by the wall was a young man. He was staring at me, grinning, and he opened his arms wide.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, my older sister,” he said.
“…My only sibling is my older brother,” I replied.
“If you’re marrying Gilan, then you’re undoubtedly my older sister,” he said.
“And who might you be?” I asked.
“Ah, how terrible of Gilan! He won’t even bring me up in a conversation, I guess,” he said.
“Gilan and I don’t speak of useless topics,” I said.
The time we had together was… precious.
The man scoffed and said, “How typical of the man who has wrought so much brutality in this world! It’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Darrel. I’m the sixth son of the previous king.”
“…Wow,” I said.
Out of the siblings who had vied for the throne, I really only knew about the fifth son. After all, I was busy with my own issues.
I took a better look at him, trying to determine whether he really was royalty. His hair was, indeed, the same silver color as Gilan’s. Besides that, though, they looked nothing alike. Well, they had different mothers, so I guess that could be expected. He looked to be older than me. He had no muscle on him, though. Was he really able to live in a place like Galle with that stature?
“It doesn’t seem like he’s lying. For now, I think he might be who he says he is,” said Ly.
“Even though he can’t see you, Lu?” I asked.
“It seems like he has the genetics, but not the strong spirit that’s necessary for that,” said Lu.
“Nice to meet you, Lord Darrel,” I said, “Is this man your underling? I would like him to lower his knife. For your sake, and his, of course.”
I had turned up all the diplomacy that I had learned from Papan. I hit him with the best greeting I could muster.
“Ah! Ugh!…?”
The lord before me went pale and balled up his fists in angered confusion.
“H-Hey,” he said to the underling, “We can’t kill her, right now, anyways. Back off!”
The knife was slowly pulled away. How long could this underling possibly keep me restrained? That’s probably what the lord was thinking. I was just a few steps away from him.
“So, Lord Darrel. Why have you brought me down to a place like this?” I asked.
“Uh-Uhm. Right now, I am living about a week’s carriage trip away from Gallea, in a crude backwater village. Me! A royal prince!”
“Wow! You get to live in a relaxing, rural setting. I’m jealous,” I said.
“Yes,” said Lu, “It actually sounds ideal. It’s out of the question for you, though, Sera – even in old age. Forget about it.”
“Shut up!” said Lord Darrel. “I never once participated in a battle for the throne. And yet, I’ve been met with this fate!”
He said he was met with a fate, but it’s not like he was starving or anything. In fact, he seemed to be doing quite well. He didn’t have any obvious scars like Gilan did, and his skin looked to be in good condition.
“I would like for you to arrange for my life to be improved,” said Lord Darren.
“What do you mean, exactly?” I asked.
“I want a palace in the center of Gallea. Also, I won’t be able to live like a royal prince unless I’m given ten times the income I receive now.”
My, oh, my.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
