- Volume 9 Chapter 158 - (Third Volume Announcement Celebration) Gilan Caught a Cold
Translator: Jasper Kadowaki | Editor: NovelMultiverse
This story is set ten months after the end of the main story, at the end of the year.
At the end of the year, while Grandmother and I were looking through the years’ income and expenditures and exchanges our views on how the next year looked, Lu, who had been at my feet as a spoiled brat, twitched awake and got to his feet slowly.
“Lu, what’s wrong?” I asked.
“I just got a message from Asu,” said Lu, “It seems as though Gilan has caught a cold, and he’s bundled up in bed.”
“What…” I said.
Gilan was in bed, sick? That didn’t happen every day. Well, I’m sure it had happened, but maybe he just didn’t tell me about it? As I told Grandmother about the news, I thought about it.
“Ah, the bigger they are, the harder they fall,” said Grandmother, laughing softly, “When you succumbed to your injuries, Serafi, His Excellency came and visited you often. You should return the favor.”
“G-Grandmother! Thank you. I’m sorry that this has come up during work. Lu, I’ll get ready to go immediately, so wait up for me, please.”
“Stay warm out there,” said Grandmother, still laughing softly, “And now, she’s not even listening because she’s too worried…”
I got this and that ready in the kitchen, and I leaped onto Lu. When we got to the palace in Gallea, it was already evening.
We had already contacted Asu before we had landed, and so Sakaki was waiting for us at the main gate.
“Princess. Thank you for your visit!” he said. Sakaki knelt on one knee, and the guards on either side of him twitched in realization of the fact that I was “the Princess”. They hurriedly got on their knees in respect. Thanks.
I smiled, slightly, and with Lu, who had shrunk back down to scarf size, I followed Sakaki into the castle.
“How is he?” I asked.
“Well… Yesterday, after he fell ill, he was entrusted with the prime minister’s duties, and he retreated to his room, but His Excellency has locked himself up in his room in a serious condition, and we can’t check up on him. Thank god you’re here, Fio,” said Sakaki.
Ah, I got it. Gilan was in a world where he had to bounce back every time. He couldn’t risk an assassin coming to get him while he was in a weakened state. There were still many enemies we had to be wary of, apparently. He had already been attacked in his sleep, after all…
As we walked, I applied some cleaning magic to Lu and myself. I didn’t want to risk bringing in any more germs. We continued down the path we came in through and arrived at the main palace grounds.
“Fio, please take care of His Excellency as you always have,” said Sasaki.
“Got it. Sasaki – if anything comes up, don’t hesitate to come knocking. Asu! The nurse has arrived!” I called out.
A clicking sound came from the door, and Asu’s red aura shined through a crack in the magical barrier. I waved goodbye to Sakaki and entered. The magical barrier closed up again behind me.
As I walked through the living room and study, I applied some common purification magic throughout the air. I finally arrived at the bedroom in the back of the apartment, and when I grabbed the doorknob, an intense shock ran through my arm!
“Whoa!” I cried.
“My god. How ridiculous!” said Lu, “Asu’s here, anyway, so why’s he have to put up so many defenses?”
Lu placed his paw on the doorknob and broke through the additional barrier.
“Gah… Who’s that… Sera?” asked Gilan, as he got up from his bed with his short sword drawn and a fierce wind swirling around his right arm. He was ready to kill. My god.
“Yes, it’s your fiancé, Sera,” I said, “I’ve come by visit you. Now put away those dangerous things.”
“…Sera, why are you here? Did Asu arrange this?!”
Gilan glared at both Asu and me, but I didn’t feel an ounce of fear. I trotted over to his bed, took his sword from him and put it aside, nudged him over, and I lay down beside him. His wind magic dwindled down.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
“Sera, you’re finally here,” said Asu, “Now I can finally relax a little bit.” He yawned.
“The fact that he didn’t even sense that you were near is a sure sign that he’s quite weakened,” said Lu, hopping up on the bed.
“Sera, this is a bad cold! Go home before you get infected, too!” Gilan insisted, despite being out of breath.
“No way! You’re my fiancé. I’m not going home until you’re all better! How’s your temperature?” I asked, shifting my weight onto one leg, grabbing Gilan’s face with both hands, and touching my forehead to his.
“Hey! Sera!” said Gilan.
Whoa, he was burning up. He must have had at least 39 degrees. When I continued to put my cheek to his, I could feel even more of a difference between our temperatures. Considering the season, it could be influenza. Oh my God! Gilan’s face was bright red! It really was bad.
“Asu, have you met anyone this week with the same symptoms as Gilan?” I asked.
“In order to check up on our food stores for the winter, we went to the slums with Arthur. There were a few people there like him, now,” said Asu.
“Hey! Asu! Shut up!” said Gilan, as he coughed violently.
He grabbed at his chest and bent over, and I hurriedly rubbed his back. He really did have some serious symptoms.
“Which means Arthur, is also… Well, Arthur has a family with him, so he should be all right. Gilan, first of all, you need to change into some more comfortable clothes. Asu, where are his clothes? …You’re acting shy, now?! I’m used to seeing guys naked from being in Trundle Guild! All right, all right – leave your sword, and I’ll take care of it, don’t worry! Do you feel like throwing up, by the way? If you don’t – here. Drink this. This? It’s purifying water from my home. Slowly, slowly… Asu, raise the temperature in this room. Lu, get some steam going! Dryness is our enemy!”
“Wow. Sera might be even more helpful than I thought,” said Asu.
“You might think she’s a spoiled little youngest child, but she’s actually quite mature, isn’t she?” asked Lu.
As I shot a glare over at Asu and Lu, I applied some magic to Gilan’s bed, patting it down so that there would be no cold air coming in.
“Gilan, close your eyes,” I told him, “If you don’t sleep, you won’t get any better.”
“Sera…” he said.
“While you’re asleep, I’ll defend you from anything and everything. Can’t your trust me?” I asked.
“…Of course I… trust you,” said Gilan, giving up and smiling.
“Well, then, good night, Gilan. I’ll be here the whole time,” I said.
I was thinking Pain, pain, go away! and, I kissed Gilan on his cheeks and eyelids. When I let go of his face, I saw that he was still really pale, but he gently started to fall asleep.
This was the first time I had seen Gilan so off of his guard.
I gently rubbed his head to rid him of his headache, and while running my fingers through his silver hair, I said, “Even when he’s sick, he’s on high alert… Isn’t he?”
“What do you expect? All leaders have to be like that, whether they like it or not,” said Lu. He pulled out a bag of ice from the magic room and placed it on Gilan’s forehead.
“But really – Are you always going to hold up half of his troubles like this, Sera?” asked Asu, with a gentle smile.
“Uhh, well I want to, but… It’s quite a lot to uphold, isn’t it?” I asked.
Since I had the chance to do it then, I put a healing spell on all of Gilan’s wounds.
Every time Gilan opened his eyes in a daze, I wiped down his body, changed his clothes for him, had him drink some water, and forced him to drink a supplement drink from home, and put him back to bed.
Gilan kept having nightmares, but I patted him on the chest, and I sang him nursery songs I remembered from my past life, and the pain left his face. Perhaps the songs themselves were healing spells, too?
On the third day, his fever finally broke, and I had him drink some soup sent straight from Matsuki, and I sighed in relief.

As soon as he woke up, a sharp pain rang out in his head, and Gilan remembered that he was ill. However, he could see and think clearly, and his fever had gone down significantly.
The temperature within the room was warm and kept steady, and the red barrier that Asu had set up, as well as a sand barrier, and a bright light surrounded his bed to protect him, like a cocoon would.
When he shifted his line of sight, he saw Asu at his side, Lu sleeping at his feet, and the love of his life, Serafiona, was sleeping atop the bed covers beside him, dressed in the cotton dress from the festival vigil. Her arms were around his head as if to protect him from any danger.
“…I’ve never been taken care of so thoroughly in my entire life.”
Gilan’s eyelids drooped, and careful not to awaken the two scarf-sized creatures, he shut his eyes silently and went back to sleep.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
