- Chapter 81 - The Highest Quality Foundation Pill

Three days later, in the Pill Room atop Nimbus Peak.
“W-w-we did it!” Liu Qian’s voice rang from the Pill Room with excitement, the sound shaking the shingles atop the roof into a clattering tremble.
Within the Pill Room, Ye Zan was covering his ears. Finally, when Liu Qian had stopped yelling, he uncovered them, saying: “How are you still screaming? Didn’t you finish while we were in the Void Realm?”
In the Void Realm, Ye Zan and Liu Qian conducted a series of experiments. After all sorts of improvements and changes, they had finally made the best tempering method for the Foundation Pill.
Why was it a tempering method and not a preparation method like that of the Refining Pill? The reason for this was that many steps of the making process for the Foundation Pill still required tempering techniques. There were some problems that were easier solved using modern methods, but there were also some that were more efficiently solved using tempering methods. Thus, the best of both worlds was to combine them and use them alternatively.
For example, there were some parts that could be stable to the point where it would require modern technology ten plus steps to separate and extract (ex. stability in molecules means the valence electrons have filled their respective shells: helium, or any gas on the eighth group on the periodic table behave like this; the stability causes it to be extremely difficult to separate these molecules as losing electrons would cause instability). This same problem could be easily solved with a simple tempering method, where a simple technique could change the structural formation of the substance and allow for better separation and extraction. Of course, you could substitute these original tempering methods with modern technology, but wouldn’t that just be asking for more problems?
This was why Ye Zan had sought out Liu Qian. Even if he could use the resource center’s information on tempering pills and simulate a Pill Master more advanced than even Liu Qian, he could only make pills in reality through a real Pill Master. This was why he needed Liu Qian’s cooperation and brought him in to familiarize him with the tempering process.
As expected, once returning to reality, Liu Qian was already familiar with the process and quickly used this new technique to temper a high-quality Foundation Pill. Although Liu Qian had succeeded many times in the Void Realm, he was still as excited as if it had been his first time trying.
“Elder Ye, this is a high-quality Foundation Pill. This is a real high-quality Pill. A high quality could come out of my hands? This….this…” Liu Qian was so excited, he began stuttering in his speech, with one of his hands to hold the glass bottle, and the other holding on to Ye Zan’s shoulder as he shook, and shook….
If an unknown person were to enter the Void Realm, they might find it hard to differentiate between what was real and what was a simulation as the Void Realm so precisely simulated reality. But a simulation was, after all, just a simulation. No matter how real it felt, it was still fake, and unable to be taken into the real world.
Because of this, Liu Qian’s excitement at having been able to temper a high-quality Foundation Pill in the real world was something incomparable to what he might have felt in the Void Realm.
“Stop stop stop,” Ye Zan could only make an anti-grab (a Tai Chi martial arts movement), and finally escape Liu Qian’s grasp. He immediately darted away from this maniac, raising his arm to prevent him from hanging onto him again and saying: “Don’t, don’t come near me. I know self-defense! If I hurt you, it won’t be pretty!”
Finally, Liu Qian seemed to calm down, though his face was still red and his body was still slightly trembling.
Ye Zan couldn’t hold in his laughter anymore, pointing at Liu Qian as he said: “Old Liu, look at yourself. I should take a picture of you right now. Do you still look like a Pill Master? If your students saw this, how would they laugh at you? Where would your reputation be?”
After letting himself loose, Liu Qian had finally recovered, hearing Ye Zan’s tease, he didn’t feel ashamed but said: “They don’t have the guts for that. Besides, I’m just like this in front of you. Why would I need to act like a Pill Master.”
As a Pill Master, Liu Qian was very proud. But, if he conceded to a person, he could also cleanly put down his pride. And, with Ye Zan, Liu Qian conceded with respect from the bottom of heart and head. He had long lost any dignities expected of a Pill Master before him.
“Alright, if you’re going to celebrate, do it later. First, give me the bottle of Foundation Pills. I need to build a foundation.” Ye Zan pointed to the bottle in Liu Qian’s hands.
Liu Qian finally reacted, hurriedly giving the bottle to Ye Zan as he said: “Right right right, I forgot. Then, I’ll not disrupt Elder Ye’s cultivation. However, don’t you think you should tell Headmaster Wu about this?”
From Liu Qian’s view, the majority of the work in making these Foundation Pills had been done by Ye Zan. He himself had only done some side work. If he didn’t give Ye Zan a notice and ran to tell Wu Changsheng first, it would seem like he was trying to claim all of the glory of the work. This would cause some unneeded misunderstandings.
However, Ye Zan didn’t really care about these things, taking the bottle and shrugging as he said: “Do what you see fit. I’ll take my leave.”
All of this work and hustle, what was it for? Naturally, it was so he could use these high-quality Foundation Pills to assist him in his flawless foundation cultivation! Ye Zan didn’t want to waste any more time, asking Liu Qian for the freshly made Foundation Pills, and rushing back to his living quarters to prepare for building his foundation.
As for Liu Qian, he didn’t run immediately to tell Wu Changsheng, but ran back into the Pill Room and precisely tempered two bottles (ten pieces) of the high-quality Foundation Pills in the method he had done before. Taking these bottles, Liu Qian finally left Nimbus Peak and rode his sword straight to Jade Fountain Peak.
When Liu Qian came before the Grand Hall on the Jade Fountain Peak, he ran into Mo Rushi, Jin Dasheng, and the others as they returned.
Ye Zan hadn’t spoken too much with Wu Changsheng about what had happened within the Closed Realm. In fact, he hadn’t even mentioned Gui Xiao, only telling Wu Changsheng about the night Gui Xiao had attacked; mostly bragging about his work and throwing a bunch of stuff at him.
Because of this, when Mo Rushi and Jin Dasheng returned with the others, Wu Changsheng finally heard about everything that had happened within the Closed Realm from the students. Hearing about what Zhou Ming had done, Wu CHangsheng finally let out a breath of relief, as he finally knew where the various Sect boxes Ye Zan had given him had come from.
After this, the Yu Qing students brought out what they had collected in the Closed Realm, and piled them before Wu Changsheng.
If this were the times of the past, Wu Changsheng would probably be satisfied to the point of unceasingly nodding his head at the sight of so many gatherings from the Yu Qing students. But, after seeing Ye Zan’s collection, Wu Changsheng was, although not dissatisfied, at least unsurprised at the trove before him.
“Senior Headmaster?” Jin Dasheng was puzzled as to why Wu Changsheng was so unmoved, his tone growing slightly dissatisfied. He had thought that based solely on the gatherings of these students on this trip, there would be rewards given to them. Even if it was just a word of praise from Wu Changsheng, it would be a sizable encouragement to the students.
“Oh,” Wu Changsheng finally snapped back into reality, stroking his beard and lightly coughing, saying to Kong Qingyun and the other students: “In the martial competition with the other Four Sect, you have achieved victory in every battle, sounding Yu Qing’s title. Within the Closed Realm, even under the pressure of an enemy’s offense, you did not forget yourselves and protected those of your Sect. You all did very well. Leave now to rest, and your rewards will be dispersed accordingly.”
“Thank you, Headmaster!” Kong Qingyun and the others kowtowed in thanks and turned to leave the Grand Hall.
