- Chapter 9 - The Daughter of the Marquess Meets the Prince
The Daughter of the Marquess Meets the Prince
“Yeees, who is it?”
When Beatrice called out, a voice that was familiar to Miriam spoke up.
“This is Caparoni and His Highness, Emilio. I have accompanied His Highness here. Please allow us to enter.”
“Sure, enter.”
‘This voice is Leo’s?’
When the door opened two young men came into view.
One of them was a dazzling handsome man with shining golden hair and long-slitted amethyst eyes. He smiled broadly as soon as he saw Miriam.
“I was wondering who it was, but it’s my cute Millie!”
“Brother!”
The man ran up to Miriam and picked her up with joy. It was like hugging a young child.
“Ah, you’re wearing a lovely dress! What is this? You look like a forest fairy!”
“B-brother! It’s embarrassing! Please let me down!”
“Hahaha, sorry, sorry.”
Leonardo put down Miriam and gently patted her head.
“While I was walking, the hem of my dress got caught in a rose bush and was torn. While I was at a complete loss on what to do, Lady Beatrice brought me here and everyone picked this dress for me.”
“So that’s what happened. Ah! Even so, it suits you so much! I always thought a bright dress like this would look good on Millie! How cute!”
“Ah, I’m sorry for interrupting but won’t you introduce me? Leonardo?”
“Oops, sorry about that. This is my youngest sister, Miriam. Miriam, this is the First Prince, His Highness Emilio Vittorio Beget Avilier. Say your greeting.”
Leonardo, who had completely forgotten about Emilio, introduced him to Miriam in a polite manner since the three witches and the prince were meeting her for the first time.
“I apologize for not greeting you earlier. I am Miriam Farina Caparoni, the second daughter of the Caparoni family. It is a great honour to meet you. Please treat me well from now on.”
At Leonardo’s urging, Miriam greeted Emilio with her eyes lowered and slowly dropped into a deep courtesy.
“It’s okay not to be so formal. I’m the First Prince, Emilio. Miss Caparoni, please raise your head.”
“As you wish.” Miriam straightened up and looked straight at Emilio.
Emilio also turned his gaze on Miriam who was standing straight now.
Their eyes held for a while.
“Ah. Ahem. Aren’t you staring a bit too much? Your Highness.”
Leonardo nudged Emilio’s side with his elbow. Although he had a smile on his face, his eyes were glaring. Miriam paled at her brother’s disrespectful behaviour and began to panic.
“B-brother! That’s His Highness!” Your Highness, I deeply apologize for my brother. Please forgive him.”
Miriam grabbed Leonardo’s arm pulling him away from Emilio, and then bowed deeply to the Prince.
Emilio smiled when he saw that.
“Thank you, but it’s no problem. Leo is an old friend.”
“That may be so. I apologize for his forwardness.”
“Don’t worry. This is nothing. He treats me worse when there’s no one looking.”
“Oh! What on earth! Brother!”
Miriam took Emilio’s joke seriously and turned on Leonardo. Emilio couldn’t hold back anymore and burst out in laughter.
“Hahaha! I was joking! Your brother always helps me out. Don’t be angry.”
“Even when Millie gets angry she just looks cute.”
“Please don’t tease me, both of you.” Miriam, realising she was made fun of, looked at them with a sullen face.
