- Chapter 66 - Three Men in the Carriage
Three Men in the Carriage
The summer came to an end. It was one of those days when it was turning to autumn.
Emilio had finished all of his paperwork at a speed never seen before and was happily riding in a carriage right now.
The Caparoni’s country estate was in La Foresta, which faced the forest which bordered a neighboring kingdom.
It also had the highway to the kingdom passing through it, which was the only way out of the Avilier kingdom. It was a key point for transportation and trade, and was also a good line of defense for the kingdom. For this reason Lord Caparoni was also known as the ‘Protector of the Forest’.
The main territory of La Forest, Confine was connected to a number of other nearby towns with both commercial and residential areas in them. These towns had expanded and become connected to each other over a long period of time; they were like a small district of their own.
It was the second largest city in the kingdom, after the Royal Capital, but it was a reasonable distance away from the capital because it was on the border.
Even the nearest city from the capital would take about 2 days on carriage with stops and breaks added in between. If it was the farthest city, it would take about 3 to 4 days. They were travelling with Robin, who was not used to travelling long journeys on a carriage, so they had decided to take a slow pace.
‘We’re going to enter La Foresta soon! I can see Miriam!’
Emilio’s face softened as he thought of meeting his fiance while looking out the window of the carriage.
‘Her neatly arranged walnut coloured hair and that smooth porcelain skin… her peach coloured cheeks and lips. Long eyelashes bordering those hazel eyes. And her cute voice calling me ‘Prince Emilio’. Her delicate body… Ah, I want to feel her arms around me!’
“Oi.”
He came back to reality at the voice of his friend.
“What?”
“Your face looks disgusting. What kind of wicked thoughts are you having?”
Leonardo was getting better at detecting when his friend was having unsavory thoughts about his sister Miriam. This kind of banter was becoming increasingly frequent between them.
“Hmm. Well you have reason to be offended if it was any other day but today is different! Because I’m going to meet Miriam later! My heart is currently bursting with anticipation!”
“… if only you could meet Miriam so easily…”
“Huh? Did you say something?
“Nope, nothing.”
Emilio hadn’t picked up Leonardo’s mumbled words.
“Hey, brother Leo. What does wicked mean?”
“Well, the bad thoughts that this First Prince here is always having are called ‘wicked’ thoughts. Remember it well, ok?”
“I see. Brother Prince is always having wicked thoughts! I will also tell it to sister Millie!”
“Leo! What are you teaching Robin! Robin, I definitely don’t have ‘wicked’ thoughts. And my name isn’t Prince, it’s Emilio! If you want to remember something then remember this!”
Emilio desperately protested against Leonardo’s statement. Robin looked at the two with a grin on his face.
And so, the carriage they were riding proceeded along the highway in Confine, the main territory in La Foresta, as they made their way to the Caparoni residence.
