Reconciliation
“Leave this to me, Prince Ivan. You should go join Miriam in the room.”
Ferdinand told Ivan to escape while he dodged the attacks on him. He was fighting with the long sword dropped by the taller man earlier.
Ivan got up from the floor and nodded at Ferdinand.
“Leave Miss Miriam and the kid to me, Lord Caparoni. Also, I’m sorry for this happening to one of your daughters again. I will apologize properly once we get out of here.”
Ferdinand looked a bit surprised at the apology but then snorted and turned away from Ivan.
“Well this and that are different matters. For now, let’s focus on getting out. We’ve talked long enough, go to the room now.”
Ivan nodded and made his way to the room Miriam was in.
When he entered the room, he saw Miriam standing on alert in front of Robin, with a fire poker in her hand. Once she saw it was Ivan, her face relaxed and she sat down on the ground.
“Prince Ivan… I’m glad you’re okay.”
“Me too, I’m glad you’re alright. You’re not hurt are you?”
“No, I’m fine. Your Highness, are you alright!? I can see some blood!”
“It’s nothing. It’s just a scratch.”
Ivan knew Miriam still couldn’t forgive him for her sister’s kidnapping. But the expression of relief on her face, when she realised she was alright, was sincere. She really did worry about him. He felt greatly moved by the broad heart of this lady who would soon become his sister-in-law. He made a vow to always support his brother and his partner in the future.
“It looks like Prince Emilio and my brother are also here, though they’re still outside. My father climbed the wall and came in through the window of the next room, so why don’t you use that window to go out? It’s a bit difficult for me to climb down, but if it’s you then you can do it…”
Ivan was impressed to learn Ferdinand had climbed the wall all the way here. They were on the 4th floor right now. What’s more, since this mansion was owned by the nobility before, the ceilings were quite high, so this floor was higher than the usual 4th floor.
“Lord Caparoni is surprisingly strong. It’s embarrassing to say so, but I can’t climb down this length of wall either. Besides, I want to stay here and protect both of you.”
Ivan took the poker from Miriam’s hands.
Her hands had turned white from how hard she was clutching it while her palms had red indents on them. Looking at those hands, Ivan furrowed his brows and took hold of them.
“I’m sorry. To have you stay here all alone. It must have been scary. Your older brother isn’t here so let me protect you until we get out of here. Since you are also going to be my sister.”
Miriam’s head swiveled up to him at those words. She nodded with tears running down her face.
Soon after, the sounds of fighting ceased in the corridor. Miriam and Ivan looked at each other before nodding and peeking out from a small crack in the door.
The people in red robes, and the duke’s guards were all fallen on the floor. Ferdinand was putting his sword back in it’s sheath, while Gil looked around with a bored yawn.
