Escape 3
“You put everyone to sleep? There’s so many of them, just how did you…?”
Ivan muttered out the same thing Miriam had been thinking about.
“It’s nothing special, just a bit of magic. DOn’t you think they’re having fun in their dreams? Well, actually, it’s more of a nightmare that I’m showing them! Hahaha!” Gil said, and then laughed happily.
Both Miriam and Ivan glanced at each other with worried faces. Gil, seeing their expressions, stopped laughing.
“You guys are so easy to read. It’s a wonder you guys have survived so far in society. You must be sheltered greatly by those around you.”
Even though the two had lots of contact with the society swirling with both love and hate, they had never been exposed to malicious intent.
When she first came out in society, Miriam always had someone from her family next to her. And Ivan always had Dino with him. They probably protected them from behind the scenes, without them knowing.
Coming to this realisation, they both resolved to change themselves once they got back safely. They wanted to return all of the favours they had received so far.
They walked silently for a while when Gil suddenly stopped and let out a grumble.
“Damn, we’re already found out…” He muttered and handed Robin to Miriam.
“Your Highness! You were saying something about sword fighting, right? How are you with a saber?”
Gil said as he bent down to pick up a saber that was right under his feet. It had been dropped by one of the Duke’s guards. He quickly turned and handed it to Ivan.
“What!? Ah, Yeah! Leave it to me!”
Ivan grabbed the word that was suddenly thrust at him, and pulled it out of it’s hilt.
BANG!
Suddenly, there was a loud crashing sound as the wall in front of them came crumbling down. Two men dressed in red robes stepped out of it. One of them was a tall man, while the other looked like a child from his small build. They could also hear the sound of several footsteps running towards them from the end of the corridor.
“What? Lord Gilbert, what are you doing? You’re not betraying us, are you?”
The smaller one pulled out a wand embellished with black thread. The arm holding the wand was covered in crackling electricity. He came closer with a wicked smile on his face.
“Well, if you guys thought I was your friend, then yeah you could say it’s a betrayal.”
The boy paused for a bit, in surprise, at Gil’s words, but then his mouth twisted back into a grin.
“Ah, then it’s not a betrayal. Since I’ve never thought of you as a friend.”
“Oi, you’re talking too much. Let’s just go already.”
The taller man grumbled to his companion as he pulled out his sword.
“I’ll handle the prince. You take care of the other!”
“Hey! We can’t kill the prince or the lady!”
The younger one quickly shouted at the older man who was ready to attack with his sword. The man muttered a small ‘damn’ in disappointment.
“Miss Miriam, please step back. Keep the child away too.”
“What! Will you be okay, Your Highness!?”
“I don’t know but there’s no other option! If you’re really worried about me then please step back! I’m not strong enough to protect you and fight at the same time!”
“Miss! This room is empty! Go hide in there!”
At Gil’s words, Miriam clutched Robin tighter to herself and, opening the door to a room nearby, rushed inside.
Just as Miriam went to the room, the taller man holding his sword ran towards Ivan to attack him. The younger one used the lightning on his arm, wielding it like a whip, and sent it flying towards Gil.
