- Chapter 55 - Goodbye at Midnight
Goodbye at Midnight
“Firstly, I have nothing to do with your sister’s kidnapping.”
“Do you honestly think I’ll believe that?”
Gil smiled miserably at Alessia’s words.
“I guess it’s impossible. I did abduct you before after all. But, this time I’m telling the truth.”
Alessia looked away not knowing what to say to that.
Gil continued, “I have decided to leave my father. I haven’t been able to muster up the determination to do so, but I can’t take it anymore. First attacking the First Prince and his betrothed, then this time, kidnapping the fiance of the First Prince, and forcing the Second Prince to be with her… and that fiance is your beloved sister, on top of that. His stupid acts keep piling on! I keep asking him to stop but he never listens. I thought it would be fine if I stayed on guard from the sidelines but I failed. All these people saying I’m a living God and whatnot only care about their own gains in the end. I’m just a fake puppet God.”
Alessia raised her head at Gil’s trembling voice.
His golden eyes were looking at her, wet with unshed tears.
“The True Salvation religion will soon collapse. I’m going to take advantage of the confusion and leave to go abroad… Alessia, this is the last time I’ll see you. Come with me, I’ll free you.”
Gil tried to grab her hand but Alessia shook her head and looked at him straight on.
“… I was very happy whenever I received those small letters from you. Also the small flowers you secretly left on my windowsill. I’ve saved them all as pressed flowers. I was so happy when you said you loved me, when you said you would free me, even now, when you ask me to come with you!”
“Then take my hand, Alessia!”
Alessia shook her head once again with tears in her eyes.
“I’m sorry. But I can’t go with you…”
Tears dripped down her cheeks. Looking at her crying there, Gil stepped into the room and wrapped his arms around her.
“I’m sorry. But I love you. I love you.”
“Yeah. I know. It’s okay.”
“But I can’t go with you. I also love my family.”
“Yeah. I know that too. I’m sorry for saying that and making you cry.”
Gil placed a kiss on Alessia’s forehead, then moved to her eyelids and then her cheeks. After raining down kisses all over her face, he placed a chaste kiss on her lips.
“Don’t cry, my Alessia…”
He hugged her again. This time, Alessia also wrapped her arms around him and returned the hug.
Knock-knock.
There was a sudden knock on her door and the maid’s voice came through.
“Goodbye, Alessia.”
“Gil…”
The two looked into each other’s eyes before they both leaned in and crashed their lips together. The kiss this time was more intense. They devoured each other’s mouths before one final kiss.
“Goodbye. I love you. I’ll always watch over you.”
“Ah, Gil… Gil…”
Gil stroked a tuft of Alessia’s hair and, placing a kiss on it, disappeared from the window.
Alessia slumped down and cried silently.
She cried for a while before realising she had to go back to pretending to be a perfect young lady. However, this time, just this time she wanted to keep crying.
Gil, who was watching her from the tree in front of the balcony also had a tear roll down his cheek. But then his usual daring smile came to his face.
“This is goodbye, Alessia. For Gil, that is…”
Saying so, he disappeared into the night.
