- Chapter 43 - The Attack
The Attack
“How many are there?”
“From what I can see from the window… there are about 7, no, 8 of them out there.”
Emilio hugged Miriam, and rested his hand over her shaking one to reassure her.
“Prince Emilio, what’s going on?”
Emilio bent down to her quivering face wanting to place a kiss on her cheek. He held her gaze for a while as he leaned into her.
“Do not worry. No one can harm us while I’m here. And we also have Dino and the royal guards following us.”
“Eh?”
Miriam glanced around the shop and saw the people she’d thought were customers were all standing on guard with their swords pulled out. They must be the royal guards.
“What was that explosion? Can you see anything?”
Dino studied the scene outside from the window.
‘I can see a horse carriage burning about 1o metres away from here. The exploding sound probably came from that carriage. There are 8 people in red robes. It looked to be 7 people at first, but there seems to be another one on the roof of the building across. Is he watching out for something?’
“There’s a burning carriage some distance away from here. The explosion sound was probably from the carriage. They’re coming here!”
As soon as he finished saying that, the red robed people surrounding the building came rushing inside one-by-one.
Emilio quickly pulled Miriam behind him as the guards rushed to protect them.
“We’re here for the First Prince Emilio!”
One of the red robed people stepped forward.
“Who the hell are you guys!?”
Emilio screamed at him. The man spread open both of his arms only to brandish a wand decorated by black thread and black magic stones.
“We are the messengers of the True God of Salvation! O lowly Prince, receive your judgement! For siding with the hateful witches who robbed us of the Holy Dragon a long time ago, you will be exterminated here!”
A green magic circle appeared as the man flicked his wand over them. A small fireball swirled around the border of the magic circle. It roared, and blazed brighter and bigger as it grew closer to the center of the circle.
Taking that as a cue, the other red robed people also swooped in to attack.
“Do you plan to destroy the whole area with that!?”
As the men slowly got closer to the party, the fireball also grew to its full size, and the magicians released it towards the prince. However, no sooner had they released it when a lapis lazuli blue magic circle appeared right above the fireball and enveloped it with a number of light flashes along with the sound of thunder. The bright light wrapped around the brightly burning blaze in an instant making it disappear completely without a trace.
Next, a doll-like woman with blonde hair and blue eyes descended between Emilio and the red robed people, giving a sweet smile.
“Lady Valeria!”
Miriam felt relief as soon as she glanced at her figure. The Witch of the Forest, Valeria, was looking at the red robed people with her silver wand clutched in her hands.
“You tactless idiots, Millie finally got a date and you’re interrupting it… I was gonna peek on it secretly but you guys ruined everything.”
Emilio didn’t miss the unsettling last part of what she’d said.
“Did you say peek secretly!?”
“Is that important right now!?” Dino exclaimed.
It looked like not all of the red robed people were magic users. They were currently fighting with the guards and Dino with weapons such as swords, knives or maces.
Dino was fighting with a knife in one hand, and a sword in the other. He kicked down one of the enemies who had run up to him and turned to Emilio.
“Yeah but it’s a bit weird to be spied on, right?”
Emilio replied as he blocked an attack from one of them and knocked him down with the hilt of his sword.
“Prince Emilio! Behind you!”
Miriam picked up a nearby candlestick and smacked it into the man who was sneaking behind Emilio to attack him.
“Ooh, nice, Millie! But you should get back from there! I’m gonna bind them!”
Valeria slowly twirled her wand and made a lapis lazuli blue coloured whirlpool. A magic circle appeared on top of her head.
“Catular*!”
(TN: *the name of the spell. I don’t think it’s an actual english word so I translated it phonetically)
In reaction to Valeria’s shout, the blue light rained down on the red robed people like arrows. The arrows made from light hit each of them and wrapped around them like ropes, suppressing them all splendidly.
“Lady Valeria! Thank you!”
The three rushed over to Valeria. Valeria brushed her robes and then flicked a strand of her golden hair over her shoulders.
“Hmm, it’s no big deal. These guys are no challenge.”
“But how did you know they were here?”
Emilio asked her suspiciously. Valeria quickly looked away as she replied.
“…That Leo asked me to supervise your guys’ date so I used that opportunity to peek at you guys…”
Miriam was shocked speechless at the blunt words.
“Y-you peeked at us? Which part did you see??”
“Everything.”
“Don’t tell me, you watched us together with everyone?”
“Of course.”
“Nooooo!”
Miriam clutched her face and tried to run away, but Emilio grabbed her from behind and stopped her.
“Where are the others right now?”
“Ellie went to catch that one guy who was still outside. Reace and Leo stayed in the palace to look into something.”
“Look into something?”
“Yup.”
At that moment, the door opened and Eleonora came in.
“Sorry, the guy on the roof got away. I was able to see silver hair when his hood fell away for a moment.”
‘Silver hair’ would mean it was Gil?
Everyone concluded the same thing.
