Takeo and Alice entered the tailor’s shop.
“Lady Alice, Kitamizato-sama, welcome,” said the shopkeeper.
“Yes, thank you,” said Takeo.
“Thank you. Sorry for barging in,” said Alice.
“Can I ask what you are looking for, today?” asked the shopkeeper.
“Well, I’m wondering what the status of the trench coats is,” said Takeo.
“Yes, well. For now, I’ve been able to make two each of S, M, L, and LL sizes for sale on the market,” said the shopkeeper, “Tomorrow, I will go to the soldier gathering spot beside the castle walls, and I’ll have them try on the coats to make sure the sizes are correct.”
“I see. It seems like you’re moving along steadily,” said Takeo, “I believe some new soldiers will put in some orders, so thank you in advance for taking care of that.”
“Hmm? What do you mean?”
“No, it’s just that in two months, there will be a new recruit training session for all three major dukedoms at the Godwin Dukedom, and I thought it would be a good advertisement to have some soldiers wear the coats there,” said Takeo, “There should be some commands going out for a few recruits to put in some orders for the event.”
“Ah, I see.”
“I hope it will be a good advertisement, but I suppose it’s up to luck, now.”
“Yes. I also hope that things will work out.”
————————
“And now, this is the main reason we came over – I have thought of a new article of clothing,” said Takeo.
“What?! Already?!”
“Yes, is there a problem?”
“…Uh… No, there’s no problem,” said the shopkeeper. He seemed very interested, along with the employees in the store.
“This time around, I would like to make something called a “down jacket”.”
“What kind of clothing is it?”
“Well, take that vest you are wearing.”
“Yes, this one?” said the shopkeeper, taking off the vest he was wearing over his shirt.
“Yes. We will layer two of the vests, and sew the edges together,” said Takeo, “And then, we will stuff it with feathers.”
“Oh, I see.”
“If we make the sewing very precise so that no air can get in, the coat will be able to hold in a lot of warmth. It will be quite warm.”
“I see.”
“I would like this to make a product that an everyday person might buy. I don’t want it to be a luxury product.”
“A product for the average person?”
“Yes. I chose vests to work with to reduce the amount of fabric we would need to use, and because we could probably use some already existing articles.”
“…Let’s make a test product immediately. Do you have time, right now?”
“I do, but… Lady Alice, how about you?”
“I have time, too. Oh, but what should we do about lunch?” asked Alice, “Shall I go buy something?”
“Hm, yes… Would you lend us a table?” Takeo asked the shopkeeper.
“Not a problem.”
“We’ll go out for a bit and go buy some lunch,” said Takeo.
“All right,” said the shopkeeper.
With that, Takeo and Alice left the shop to go buy lunch.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
————————
Takeo and Alice bought sandwiches at the café they had previously visited and were on their way back to the shop with them.
“Takeo-sama, you didn’t have to come with me, you know?” said Alice, “I could have gone on my own.”
“No, no. In that situation, I should back off a bit for a moment, don’t you think?”
“Is that so?”
“After we left, I bet the shop got into quite a bustle, again,” said Takeo, “For now, they had to sew together two vests of affordable material, and then they had to go get cotton or feathers from somewhere.”
“Again? …Ah, like last time, with the trench coats?”
“Yes. That employee over there works very quickly. It’s actually quite interesting… I bet he will be working all night, again,” said Takeo, laughing softly.
They then arrived at the tailor’s shop. On the door was a sign that said “Closed”.
“Ah… It’s just as you predicted, Takeo-sama…”
Alice, slightly exasperated, entered the shop with Takeo.
————————
“We’re back,” announced Takeo, as they entered.
“Welcome, Lady Alice, Kitamizato-sama,” said the shopkeeper, walking over to them.
“We’ve finished with the sewing,” he said.
“Making quick work, as usual, aren’t you?” said Takeo, seemingly impressed, “Now, I said we would call this a ‘down jacket vest’ since it would be an overcoat with feathers in it that’s in the shape of a vest… Perhaps we should call it a ‘down vest’, though.”
“Yes, sir,” said the shopkeeper.
“I wanted to keep the price down, and so… I chose a vest, which would have less surface area, and so we would need less raw materials.”
“I see. By the way, where do you think we would be able to sell these?”
“It would be good for farm work, or forestry. It would be good for people working outside of their stores, as well,” said Takeo, “Since we’re getting rid of the sleeves, it should be good for working in, and moving one’s arms about freely, while keeping one warm.”
“What were you thinking, price-wise?”
“…What do you think?” Takeo asked the shopkeeper.
“Well… If we have to make S, M, L, and LL sizes again… I think we’re looking at around one silver and ten copper.”
“I see. I was thinking one silver.”
“Ah… I would expect no less from you, Kitamizato-sama.”
“No, no,” said Takeo smiling bitterly, “I still have much to learn. What do you think about putting up some ads around the town?”
“What do you mean?”
“We want farmers, foresters, and other men to buy these,” said Takeo, “and so I thought of ways we could sell to those people… I came up with some strategies.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Perhaps we could make a ‘Father’s Day’?”
“Father’s Day, you say… You mean to say we should make one specific day Father’s Day?”
“No, not a day that the whole country or a territory would recognize as an official holiday,” said Takeo, “But, for example… For next month or the one after that, we can pick a specific day to establish as this store’s ‘Father’s Day’. We can advertise it with lines like “Buy something for a person you love” or “Show your love and thanks to your loving father”. Well, something along those lines. Then, we can put those up around town. If possible, I’d like to get some other stores like eateries in on it, too. If they could advertise their own sales for Father’s Day, it would raise awareness that such a thing even exists. I think sales would go up if we did that.”
“Indeed, getting other businesses around town involved is a good idea.”
“We might have to organize a sort of market for the whole thing in town, but I think it would be worth it, don’t you?” asked Takeo, smiling.
The tailor nodded in response.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
