The work necessary to extract the dashi had been completed, and the prep work to make the cod roe spaghetti was… All that had to be done was to break down the roe, and once the salad was deemed ready, everyone returned to their original positions.
“All right, then. The preparations for tonight’s dinner are complete,” said Takeo, “Hmm? What have you brought us?”
Takeo’s interest was piqued by something the dessert chef had brought in.
“Yes, well. You told us that yesterday’s butter-flavored whipped cream should be lighter and that we would make a lighter version, so I thought we might test out whether it would go well with a chiffon cake.”
“I see, it sounds good!” said Takeo, “May I try some?”
“Please.”
Takeo took a bite.
“I see… The mouthfeel is quite solid,” he said, “The taste has been dialed back a bit… Hm?”
“Takeo, what is it?”
“No, it’s just that… This freshness…” said Takeo, “Head chef, dessert chef… Do we still have any of the buttery whipped cream from yesterday?”
“Yes, I’ll bring it now,” said the dessert chef, and he left and came back with the previous day’s leftovers.
“What are you going to do with this??”
Takeo cut out two thin slices of the chiffon cake, layered some of the buttery whipped cream in between them, and took a bite.
“…There is indeed a strong buttery taste, but… What’s this?”
First, the head chef tried it, and then the others had some, as well.
“That same buttery taste is still quite strong,” said the dessert chef, and everyone nodded in agreement.
“…However, it’s not bad.”
“You’re right. The buttery taste is strong, but that doesn’t make it bad, per se.”
“…Dried grapes… Do we have any raisins?”
Takeo then tried it with some raisins layered in, as well.
“Oh, this could work, huh?” Takeo said, nodding. Everyone saw his reaction and tried it. They all began to nod in admiration.
“Can we call this a success, then?” asked the head chef, and everyone nodded.
At that moment, Frederick came in to prepare the tea.
“What’s all this, then?” he asked everyone.
“Frederick-san, please try this,” said Takeo, layering the buttery whipped cream and raisins between slices of chiffon cake, and handing it over to him.
Frederick took a bite and voiced his opinion with a slow and awe-induced, “Oh.”
“How is it?”
“I’d call it a success,” said Frederick.
“If we pair it with a stronger tea, could we reasonably serve it?”
“Yes, I don’t see why not.”
“It would be good to serve when we have guests suddenly arrive, as well.”
“Let’s make sure we buy some butter at least once every three days.”
“All right,” said Takeo, “Here, Frederick-san – this is for everyone in the parlor.”
Takeo made a few plates and handed them over to Frederick.
“All right, I will bring them out,” said Frederick, “I will hear what they have to say about it.”
“Thank you very much.”
Everyone watched Frederick go.
“Now. Let’s settle on a menu for tomorrow’s dinner, once and for all.”
The discussion began all over again.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
————————
After lunch was finished, Grandpa Elvis was lounging in the parlor.
Smith had finished his morning studies, and he had some time before his training with Harold, so he was lounging, as well.
Alice was relaxing while taking a look at Takeo’s notebook. She was reading with his spare glasses on.
“What are you reading, there, Alice?” asked Grandpa Elvis.
“They’re Takeo-sama’s scribbles,” said Alice.
“Hm?… Takeo has been drawing?”
“No. He told me that he’s writing down all of his knowledge before he forgets it. He’s been jotting it all down.”
“What?! That is very important information, there.”
Grandpa Elvis and Smith sat with surprised looks on their faces.
“Yes, I told Takeo-sama that it amounts to a family treasure,” said Alice, “He responded in turn, ‘This stuff?’”
She smiled bitterly.
“…My God… Takeo really doesn’t understand the gravity of his knowledge, does he?” said Grandpa Elvis.
“I said the same thing to Takeo-sama,” said Alice.
“Hmm, yes. And, what did he say?”
“He didn’t seem to pay it much mind.”
“…How should I put it? He’s too humble.”
“If we put out this book to various places, I bet it would cause an uproar.”
“Takeo hasn’t even considered such a thing, I bet.”
“He hasn’t thought of that at all. He casually let me know that it should be ‘used for the benefit of the Elvis household’.”
“Hahaha, that is quite typical of Takeo-sama,” said Smith, smirking.
“Well, what has he written in it?”
“Hmm… something about 9.8 m/s^2 and sin and cos, and a bunch of numbers have been written down,” said Alice, “What in the world is this??”
“…I have no idea,” said Grandpa Elvis.
“I don’t know,” said Smith.
“It’s an unintelligible mystery…”
The three of them frowned.
“What else is written there, then?” asked Grandpa Elvis.
“Recipes for various dishes, and notes about clothes. And, also…” Alice answered as she flipped through the pages, but she stopped on one page, and fell silent, staring at it.
“Hm? What is it??” asked Grandpa Elvis.
“Ah!… Nothing?!.. Nothing in particular…” said Alice, coughing, “The rest is about systems of government, considerations of certain weapons, and whatnot.”
“I’m not very convinced of that, but… Ah, that’s fine,” said Grandpa Elvis, “I’m sure that one day, Takeo himself will tell us of what he’s written.”
“Yes. Takeo-sama said that he would organize everything into documents.”
“Hmm, yes. I shall wait for that, then.”
Frederick then stepped into the parlor, bringing with him tea and dessert.
“Ah, you’re all here,” he said.
“Hmm, yes. Thank you, Frederick,” said Grandpa Elvis.
“Not at all. Takeo-sama has created a new dessert out of yesterday’s buttery whipped cream, and so I have brought it here.”
Frederick served the tea and dessert to the three people in the parlor.
“Hmm, yes. Well, then, let’s try it,” said Grandpa Elvis.
The three of them began eating.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
